Students were bussed to the school from all areas of the city. The school's name was LELAND, and was named after Nellie Page Leland. It was located on 1395 Antietam, not far from where the old Stroh Brewery stood. For the longest time, I have been curious of who Nellie Leland was and why the school was named after her. I understand that the school was in operation for a long time, possibly before the 1940s. It was closed in the 1970s. As far as I knnow, the building still stands, but is not in use. I remember a plack that was once on the corner of the building that stated that it was once an old Civil War Recruiting station. Perhaps the Burton Historical Collection at the Dewtroit Public Library can help you find more information. J. Lanzon
