I have an ancestor (my husband's GGGma) who appears to have had a son out of wedlock. He was born in Indiana, I believe, about 1882. His birth fell between her marriages and his surname is not one for which I have a marriage certificate for her. He lived all of his adult live in Illinois (Chicago) and the 1930 census he identifies himself as owning a paint store. What I'm trying to find out is who his father was. I thought that perhaps Illinois death certificates might list the names of parents? Does anyone know that? His name was Alfred Montrose but his mother was Minerva Jane Dishman Edwards Trowbridge Beaver Purcell Wright. Whew. Not a Montrose in the lot though so where in the heck did Montrose come from? If so, you can ask the cemetery for her burial info and birth/death dates. You can then order her death certificate to see if the names match up with the census. Mine married a woman named Margarite, had a daugher and son born in 1940's(early-mid), and I think came to MA from either CT or maybe western Ma(Springfield Ma area). I knew them on the North Shore of MA. Mrs Johnson was a Roman Catholic, children went to parochial school. They left our area around 1955-57 I think-.
