VERNON F. "BUTCH" LANG JR., 57: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice Chicago Tribune (IL) - August 7, 2003 Deceased Name: VERNON F. "BUTCH" LANG JR., 57 Vernon F. "Butch" Lang Jr., an Elgin city worker for more than 30 years, maintained parks. Mr. Lang, a lifelong Elgin resident, died of injuries received in a car crash Sunday, Aug. 3, outside Mendota, Ill. Born in Elgin, Mr. Lang finished two years at Elgin High School and drove trucks for his father, who owned Lang's Transfer, an Elgin trucking business. He had a variety of jobs before joining the City of Elgin staff in 1972. He started with the Sanitation Department and moved to the Parks and Recreation Department, where he worked for many years. "He was a jovial man," his wife, Judith, said. Other survivors include a son, Douglas; a daughter, Shelly Sadowski; his mother, Lois Roberson; three sisters, Nancy Morgan, Janet Akers and Mary Gifford; a brother, Charles; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Home, 51 Center St., Elgin. A service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Do you have full access to that? If not, I can summarize it for you. You could check the address on Gilda's birth certificate against the address on this card to see if it is the same man. (You can get the certificate number of Gilda's birth certificate at italiangen.org.) If they match you can order his naturalization records which should include his parents' names, his birth place, etc. The card has his immigration date as Oct. 2, 1898.
