Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Fh.2ADI/5669 Message Board Post: Dear Clark Relatives, I don't know about you, but the family line I have had the hardest time with has been the Clark line. It is especially tough when the first names are common-both my great grandfather and gg grandfather are named John. Anyway I am posting this message for those of you searching in Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Southern Illinois in hopes we can find some connections. So, if you are Clark hunting in one of these areas, feel free to join "the club" Here are my particulars: My gg grandfather, John Clark, born about 1849, probably Illinois. His parents were probably born in KY or TN. John married Malinda Wilkerson (b 1854) in 1870 in Franklin County, IL. They had a son, John P., born between 1871-1873 in Spring Garden, Jefferson County, IL. They then moved to Arkansas, and had a son, William, born about 1875/6 and a daughter, Sarah, born about 1878/79. In 1880, they are living in Christian, Independence, Arkansas. I do not know what happened to John 1849, Malinda, William or Sarah after that. The 1871/3 John is my great grandfather. In 1892 he married Laura Reed in Jackson County, IL. John and Laura had the following children: Eva 1896-?, Walter 1899-1971, Ava 1901-1963, Floyd, 1903-?, Susie, 1906-1935, Fred Willis 1916-2001. Sometime after 1920 they moved from Carbondale to East St Louis. John 1871 died in 1951. 2 siblings of his were still living--Mrs Ollie Gibbs of E St Louis and Harrison Clark of Fayette Co., IL. It could be they were half siblings. Susie married Archie Edwards and had 6 children. On of them, Evelyn, married a McCoy. Ava married a man named Wade, and later a man named McCaslin. John and Laura had, according to the 1920 census, a grandaughter named Louise Tweedy, born 1915. Fred Willis is my grandfather. Walter's middle name was Cavaness. Basically I am trying to learn more about John 1849,Malinda, William, Sarah, any other wives and children John 1849 had, the KY/TN connection, and all descendants (other than Fred Willis). Fred

Hi Listers; Is the a 1910 ophan census for CUNNINGHAM CHILDREN'S HOME - URBANA, ILLINOIS Thanks
Dear Frances...and others interested in orphanages in early Illinois, Yes, there were some orphanages existing in 1850-60. Here's how to find them. Go to Google, or some other search engine that is a favorite of yours. Ask it to find something like: Orphanage Illinois 1850 Google said it found 6,630 entries that matched that request...of course some of them won't be what you want, and I doubt that you can find the time to read that many, but you should be able to find something that will be helpful to your needs. Remember that changing the question will change the answers, so if you need to see more possibilities try reshuffling the words: Illinois 1850 Orphanage or adding the county you wish to find: Kendall Illinois orphanages or changing the question a lot: orphan homes Illinois 1855 just be creative. It might also prove useful to know that Illinois received quite a number of orphan train children. You can learn more about them in the same way. Hi Listers I am looking for any information on my Grandmother. I only know her given name - Amanda HALL. I did find an Amanda HALL b. 1878 in Michigan. Mother name Mary ? b. in Canada, father's name Ell or Elliott. But, not sure if that's her. Amanda (Mandy) HALL married a man named Randall ? and they had 4 children, two boys and two girls, born between 1900 and 1910. Gerald, Burl, Evelyn, and May all born in Chicago, ILL. My father used the surname O'NEIL after 1933. I am trying to find out any info on his family and why he changed his name. The only info I have is from his SS application where he put Amanda Hall as his mother's maiden name. I would apreciate any info you may have. Thanks in advance Linda in AZ

I could not locate the family in the 1910 census. In the 1920 census of the Wydick family there is a boarder named Grace Melvil age 31, widow, born in IL, mother born TN and father born in IL. I am almost postive that Grace Melvil is Ephraim and Nancy's daughter. If you would like copies of the census pages just let me know and I will send them to you Barb

I have a family of Norwegians who came here in 1850 and 1852. Three came in 1850, Johannes Johnson 22, Margaret 20 ( later married Andrew Anderson) and Anna 18 (later married Lars Pearson). I found John Johnson in 1860 in Prebles Twp, Fillmore County, MN, Margaret in 1870, married to Andrew Anderson, in Pilot Township, Kankakee County, and Anna, married to Lars Pearson in 1860 in Thornton Twp, Cook County. A sister, Alice Johnson, was living with them at the time. She too lived in Kankakee County and married Albert S. Olson. I'd like to find Margaret Anderson (as she had a 14 year old boy in 1870) in 1860, so I could see her older children that are mentioned in the 1900 census when she is living with her son, George C. In the second group arriving in 1852 were the parents Hans and Trine (Trina, Thrine, etc.) Johnson. They were born 1804 and 1806, respectively. With them were sons Jon, born 1835, Hans, born 1840, Gjert (George) born 1843, Johannes, born 1845, Hans born 1852. In 1870, Hans and Trine were in Genesee, Kandiyohi Cty, MN with their 15 year old daughter, Hannah, born in Illinois in 1855. I'd like to find them in 1860 in Illinois or MN I'd guess, so I might be able to see what happened to Johannes, born 1845 and Hans born 1852. Without the 1860 census info, I am at a loss. I thought perhaps they were living with Margaret Anderson who was in an established household by 1860, but I can't find her either in 1860. The other two girls Trine and Alice, I've been able to locate Trine as Mrs. John D. Johnson in Iowa and Alice Olson in Kankakee and later Onarga. Dumb luck led me to Alice and a quit claim deed to Trine. My only research tool is Heritage Quest which searches for head of household only. That's what makes me think Hans and Trine may have been living with someone else. If anyone has access to a better index and would be willing to help, I'd really appreciate it. My first breakthrough with this family was last March and I'd sure like to wrap them up by this March. Joan in Illinois
