You can probably find a similar article via google. The evening of 16 Mar. or early morning of the 17th, more than thirty headstones had been vandalized at Harrison Cemetery near Buckner. Forty-seven headstones had been damaged at Mitchell Cemetery in Sesser several weeks earlier. The articles said that volunteers had already reinstalled unbroken headstones at Mitchell Cem. "Several Sesser-Valier H.S. students also have decided to get involved and have organized fund-raising activities to defray the costs of repairing the headstones." Perhaps this will be of interest to some readers. I have NO connection with Franklin County. Kathleen (STANFIELD) COOK

Ansel H. Turner born MA about 1830 the son of Joseph Turner and Serena Hunter. Believe Ansel married Isabell, surname probably Murphy, she born NY about 1836, she may have had a brother, Maurice. Ansel was living in Rock Creek, Carroll Co., Illinois in 1870 - two of his brothers, Charles and Munroe, also lived in Illinois. Charles Turner married Alice Robinson and Munroe Turner married Clara Robinson (sisters). Believe Munroe and Clara died at Vinton, Benton Co., listed there in 1900 and 1910 but loose them after that. Don't know where Charles died, seems this Turner line had some connection to Long Beach CA.....? Would like to hear from anyone descended from these Turner or Robinson families. Janice

Usually a big library will have city directories that may tell you where he lived and worked. I've usually been charged about $1 per page for each year researched in the city directories. If you have a lot of years to cover, you might want to get copies every two to three years. I hope this helps.

The response i have recieved has been terriffic. I will try to explain what i am trying to achieve. All ENSTEN'S i have found records for back to 1650 in UK and Australia are related to me. I have a DANIEL ENSTEN born May 1870 in 1894 he married LUCY ELIZABETH BUNNING in UK, 3 children born FLORENCE b 1895, THOMAS b 1898 d1898 and ELLEN EDITH born 1901. In 1901 Census i have found LUCY living with an unknown family, her daughter is staying with Lucys Mother, NO sign of DANIEL. In 1903 LUCY ELIZABETH remarries using her Maiden Name. I believe DANIEL deserted LUCY and the last 2 children born are not Daniel's. While searching i find a DANIEL ENSTEN in Oklahoma born May 1869, and he is English. On the 23rd a Lister to this Site sends me a Site where Daniel and Eliza buried, there is another Person buried with them her name FLORENCE. i have 1900 and 1910 Census and NO Florence living with them in 1910 (she was surposed to be born 1902). Another Lister has told me they are not in 1920 or 1930 Census, but you have found them, would love a copy. Also new to me is the info about Purchase of Land, from where can i get more info. I am looking for 1 word or a small clue that i can possitively say DANIEL in Oklahoma is mine. Tulsa World Online have 2 Obituaries for a JOANN ENSTEN born 1928 if a try to purchase them the site will not accept my Country?? As for WINNIFRED i have been told by a nother Lister that the Address in Washington that is on the Ships Mannifest did not excist in 1916, so i assume she was going to a Washington in another state. The response i have recieved in the past week has been great, only hope is that one day i can help those that have helped me. Please keep sending anything on ENSTEN as i feel that DANIEL in Oklahoma is mine, but need some sort of connection. RAY ENSTEN (Adelaide, Australia)

Students were bussed to the school from all areas of the city. The school's name was LELAND, and was named after Nellie Page Leland. It was located on 1395 Antietam, not far from where the old Stroh Brewery stood. For the longest time, I have been curious of who Nellie Leland was and why the school was named after her. I understand that the school was in operation for a long time, possibly before the 1940s. It was closed in the 1970s. As far as I knnow, the building still stands, but is not in use. I remember a plack that was once on the corner of the building that stated that it was once an old Civil War Recruiting station. Perhaps the Burton Historical Collection at the Dewtroit Public Library can help you find more information. J. Lanzon

This is a World Wide service, the county of origin of the credit card is not an issue. What perplexes us is why you think you need to spend money. There are a bunch of us out there that love a challenge. It is important to tell us what you are looking for. How do you think Daniel ties to your line. Is he an uncle, a cousin, etc. Judging from the response that you received, we would guess that 25 or so of us looked into your family. Most of us will not post information, if we are not sure if it helps you. We actually spent a couple of hours looking for him. He went from Chicago in 1900 to Texas County, Oklahoma in 1910. He purchased land in Texas Co under the US Homestead Act in 1911. He was listed in Cimarron Co., OK in 1920. By 1930, he was back in Texas Co. He may not have moved, it may be that the boundary of the county changed. There are volunteers in Texas Co that will do obit and public record lookups for free. See the links: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~obitl/ http://www.raogk.org/ and http://www.bobbyebeer.com/ Other things we found is that Winnifred was going to Washington DC when she entered the country at Ellis Island. There are very few Lawrence’s from England in DC in 1920, if you were to give us the names of her suspected sisters we might be able to identify her. The bottom line is that there are lots of people on the list that want to help, the biggest problem is tell us what you consider success is.
