I'm not sure which Chicago sanitorium you have in mind for your great aunt. There's a children's hospital, La Rabida, that I know had TB patients in the 30's and 40's. They've been around since 1896. I've the same trouble with my great grandmother--closest I can come to a death record is mention of her death in her sister's obit. My grandmother died 2 days after her sister and it was mentioned that some of the family couldn't stay for the services due to her untimely death. Joan in Illinois

My grandmother died in Joliet but there is no record of her death in the town or the county. Also, is it possible to find out if someone was a patient in a sanitorium? I had a great-aunt that was supposed to have died in the Chicago sanitorium which is now closed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for Mary catherine Gregory Yarbro. chicago illinois. She is my mother. I was adopted at the age of 4. My sister remembers her always singing "take the key and lock her up" Now this may not mean a lot to sum but our adopted father use to ask me all the time that cough of your sounds like you have 'TB"! I am sitting here searching as I'm home with a huge cold. Yes, he asked me from heaven Gee that sounds like you have "TB" I got mad and typed in TB Illinois because my mother was born in illinois and as said above that nursery rhyme stuck with us. So here pops in you message and request for information. Just coincidence I know but a little spooky non the less. Now after reading the information could you please tell me how I go about finding the cathlic cemeterys. My grandparents and mother if deceased may be buried in them as they aren't in the family "Gregory" plot in Dubuque Io! wa. Long way around but I got to the point. Thanks for any asstance with this. Evie
Hi Everyone, In the first link, the "Augustana College Special Collection", "Rock Island Historical Society" and "Galesburg Public Library" have old Illinois images. You might luck out and find something. In the second link, there are images of old farms and some portraits. Not many but they have to be someone's family. Hi Rosa, I looked at ellisisland.org and I found Giov'i Chiavario, age 40, arriving from Italy February 3, 1896. The ship appears to be LaTouraine, but when I try to look at the manifest, it shows me the ship LaGascogne. Maybe someone else can help us with this. There was another Chiavario on the same ship. I believe it's a female named Giulia (does that seem feminine to you?) and she's 19 years old. Do you think this could be his wife? I really believe your Giovanni is the 73 year old I found in Bureau County as a widower in 1920, living with his daughter and son-in-law. His daughter's name appears to be May and she is 31 years old. Perhaps your Giovanni was married more than once? Take a look at it and see what you think. Maybe you'll have better luck looking at the manifest. Just go to ellisisland.org. You will need to register your screen name and give a password, but it's free. Joan
Rosa, Giovanni would translate to John. Do you have any further interest in the John's I found in Bureau County? Joan

Hi Rosa, At Heritage Quest, I found the following in the census records for Bureau County (where Seatonville is located): 1900 Joseph Chavario 21 1900 Val 39 1910 Anton 38 1910 John 55 1920 John 73 (in this case, he was living with his son-in-law, a Frenchman named Jule Trevior, laborer in a mine, and his daughter, Anna? and three small children) I could find no Giorgio. Perhaps he came between the 1880 and 1900 census? If any of the above look familiar to you and you'd like the info from the census, let me know. Joan in Illinois
