    1. 1880 Census Larry Fitzsimmonds/Mary Riley
    2. There's more than one of you out there looking for this connection. This census in Competine, Wapella, Iowa (on familysearch.com), shows Larry (Lawrence) married to a Bridget with a bunch of kids and some of the older ones are working out of the home. Mary Riley is still present and listed as MotherL (mother-in-law, I'd guess). Hope this helps. Joan in Illinois

    1. Re: [ILROOTS] need obit or death cert please
    2. I looked at the census for Thomas Riley in 1860 and it definitely looks like he's 33 years old. Then I looked for Thomas Riley in 1870 and there is one in Warren County, Hale Twp. who is 43 years old, married to Bridget, born Ireland, and they apparently married about 1861 or 1862 because they have a son, John, who is 8 in 1870. There are 5 more children listed. Don't you think it's probable that this is Mary's son? They appear again in 1880, adding 3 more children. This is in Warren County, Sumner. I think Sumner may be a town name, not the township. It's likely that if Thomas married Bridget, Mary opted to live with her daughter in Iowa. In 1900, Bridget is a widow, she immigrated in 1856, she was born May 1840, and she's living with the following children: William, born June 1866, age 33 farmer Bell(?), daughter, born August 1878, age 22 (maybe this is Agnes B. in the 1880 census?) Chester, born November 1875, age 24, farm laborer If you go along with this train of thought, you might spend your time better by trying to find them, Mary, Thomas and William on a ship's passenger list. Seems I remember all three were born in Ireland, so subtract William's 13 from 1860 and you get 1847, so you'd be looking for their arrival in the US between 1847 and 1860. Have you looked for land purchases by Thomas in the Illinois State Archives? Those records have helped me a lot. Also, the daughter she went to live with in Iowa, was she born in Ireland? Then you could add her to the immigrants you are looking for. Hope this helps. Joan in Illinois

Surnames: Dindinger/Dintinger/Dendenger Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Fh.2ADI/5813 Message Board Post: Herman Dindinger is listed in the Chicago City directory for 1856. I have been trying to find more info out about him. Could he have had a daughter Elisabeth who married Joseph HALL probably in Illinois around that time? If anyone sees this name in the midst of research, I'd apppreciate hearing from you. This has been a brick wall for many, many years. Elisabeth (1831-1899) spent her adult life in Rochester, NY, where she went to join the her husband's family after children George Adam and Maggie were born in Illinois (probably Chicago) in 1855 and 1857.

    1. Genealogy search terms comparison
    2. Bill Cribbs
    3. Hi all, After all these years on the web, I just recently found out about alltheweb.com and boy was I pleasantly surprised! Just out of curiosity, I did an informal survey between the two best search engines (IMHO) to see how they compare with genealogy search words. I wanted to see how many total pages were indexed for each one. You may be surprised at the results: SEARCH WORD(S) GOOGLE.COM ALLTHEWEB.COM ============== ========== ============= marriages 6,240,000 8,690,000 obituaries 55,400,000 39,600,000 "death notices" 2,620,000 4,200,000 "marriage records" 848,000 877,000 "ship passenger lists" 910 2,070 "census transcription" 361,000 28,200 "birth records" 388,000 692,000 Now when you put "Illinois" in with the phrase, you can also see which one produces the most results. I've been using Google all this time...and probably still will, but I can see now that I've been missing out on a very good resource with AllTheWeb.com. Hope this research helps someone else as it has me. Bill GenealogyBuff.com http://www.genealogybuff.com
