Hi Cyndi, I saw this one too, but wondered about the Serbia and the 1917. Ellis Island did have Bozo Krizic as arriving in 1914 and showed under Ethnicity/Austria, Slovenian - Bos.......(Bosnia, I presume). Guess I should go back and see if Ellis Island has Bozo Kizak. I just looked and they do not show a Bozo Kizak. They do have 20 male Kizak arriving in different years but none in 1917. He could have come in a different port as well. Guess we'll have to let the originator of this thread make up his own mind. Thanks for the input. Joan
Hi, Have you gone to familysearch.com? If you just do an ancestor search for Krizic, you'll get some Social Security info. There's a Michael (could be Americanization for Mijo?) Krizic who was born 27 October 1895. He died September 1964. There is a Mary Krizic who could possibly be his wife. She was ten years younger than him and died 20 years later. It doesn't say where he was born, but his Social Security # is 341-07-7526. This number was issued in Illinois and he died in Illinois. Have you also looked at ellisisland.org? There are 5 male Krizic men there. Most bound for Chicago, looked like 3020 Greenleaf Avenue. Their first names are Ivan, bound for Pittsburg, Mijo (also bound for Pittsburgh and they both came in 1913), Bozo and Marco in 1914 to Chicago, and Stjepan in 1912. I had absolutely no luck finding them in the 1920 census. I even tried first names only. Hope this helps a little. I'll see if I can find Michael in the 1920 census. Joan

Mary, I did find one Luella McDonald who died May 10, 1947 in Cook County, Illinois. She was a female/Negro under the Sex/Race column. Unfortunately, her age at death is unknown. The death certificate number is 0015307. I copied the following page from the archives so you can see that they do make mistakes in the Race column and also in the County column. Oddly enough, it uses McDonald as an example of how to do a thorough search. I did not try all of these but you could do it if you like. The URL is: _www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/archives.html_ (http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/archives.html) Tips on Using the Database of Illinois Death Certificates, 1916–1950 Researchers should remember that the death index may contain spelling errors, incorrect data about the death and erroneous entries. Every attempt was made by the Illinois Department of Public Health to obtain accurate spellings of names. However, because the index was created from the original (usually handwritten) documents, the spellings of names were sometimes misinterpreted. Misspellings and incorrect data were also introduced simply through human error. When searching this index, we suggest that researchers check alternative spellings of names if they do not find an entry for the name for which they are searching. For example, the Illinois Department of Public Health may have data entered that contains incorrect vowels in spelling a name (e.g., the surname Hascall may be incorrectly spelled Hoscoll). Entering only the first few letters of a surname may be a more effective method of searching the database. Names beginning with prefixes such as Mc, Mac, O, Du, De, La, and Le may be spelled with or without a space between the prefix and the remainder of the surname. For example, you will find both Mc Donald and McDonald in the index as well as several entries that were entered as Mc@Donald. The index also shows O'Hara, O Hara, OHara and O@Hara. You must search all possible spellings to effectively locate persons with these prefixed surnames. The index also may contain incorrect information concerning the death. For example, the county of death may be shown as Lake County in the index, but the death actually occurred in LaSalle County. If you are unable to locate an ancestor in the death index, you should try a statewide search rather than limiting the search to a single county. Other errors in the index include showing the wrong sex or race for the decedent. For example, a female decedent may be shown as being a male (M) or a white decedent (W) might be shown as being a Negro (N). The abbreviation N/S in the sex/race field means NOT STATED. The date of death may also be incorrect. For example, some deaths occurring in 1936 were entered as 1935 deaths. Corrections to the Illinois Statewide Death Index, 1916–1950 ____________________________________ Since the Illinois Department of Public Health maintains this death index and it is an official record of that agency, the Illinois State Archives CANNOT make corrections. Requests for corrections to the death index should be made to the _Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Vital Records_ (http://www.idph.state.il.us/vitalrecords/index.htm) . In a message dated 5/3/05 8:00:22 P.M. Central Daylight Time, pgauby@kans.com writes: Can someone out there please tell me when the 1865 Illinois state census was taken? After I told you that I had Emailed Illinois State Archives about this, you did receive an answer from someone who told you it was July. I did receive a response in the mail today to my request of May 4th. It is not very clear-cut. It says "Taken under act of 1845 as amended 1855." Then under 1845, it says "Taken July 1-Oct. 1" My only question would be if the person gave you "July" got his/her information by just looking at a copy pertaining to a relative. I really do think it was usually more than 1 month. I noted that under 1840 it states "Time for completion extended to Jan. 1, 1841. I think if you want to be sure, you'd need to order the film for the particular county and see for yourself. Joan
Mary, I tried tonight to find something for you in Illinois, where I live. Checked the State Archives for marriages with no luck. I found one interesting possibility in 1900, Lawrence County, Christy Township. There was a 5 year-old Louisa born 1895 granddaughter and a 9 year old grandson, Harry Anderson, living with their grandparents. They were both born in Illinois, as were all the kids of this couple. The grandfather is James Eyepoch(k)? born in Tennessee, age 53. It is the second marriage for his wife, Louise, age 45 (could she perhaps be Francis McDonald's mother?). She states she had 11 children, 7 still living. Maybe Harry and little Louisa were orphaned? Birthdates are often wrong. This couple had 5 children with them, besides the grandchildren, ages 26, 22, 13, 8, 6. I also looked for a marriage certificate for this couple with no luck. If you think this could be a possibility, I could look for death certificates on Francis and Luella tomorrow. Joan

What I have found out leads me to believe that they lived in Illinois and that their daughter, Louise was born in Dec.1893. I don't know if this was their first, last, or only child. Therefore the only dates I can give are probably prior to that time. Louise was then married to Roy Samuel McDonald. I believe that marriage also took place in Illinois prior to 1912, although she died in Ohio In 1917. Look-ups on Louise and Roy would also be appreciated. Many Thanks, Mary
