Does anyone know what the abbreviation Jno. stands for? My guess is Jonathan because to write John would only require one more letter. Also wonder if anyone has an opinion about the term "lives complete" in the 1880 census. Would that mean the person was handicapped in some way but still managed to meet the daily requirements of living? Joan in Illinois
Hey Joan Jno- is always used for Jonathan. But I've never seen the 'lives complete'! Will you tell us where you saw it? The best choice (actually the only) I saw for the family of William DOERING was in 1880 Washington Twp, Pickaway County, Ohio (right "next door" to Fairfield Co where he seemed to spend the rest of his life): Henry 40 Germany (gone by 1900) Cathrine/Catherine 41 Germany Martha 15 OH Mary 11 OH William 8 OH Harry 6 OH John 5 OH Elmer 3 OH Clara 1 OH Maybe some of these names will ring a bell with someone. He was supposedly adopted by and/or took name of Ananias Whyte who then took the family to Iowa from IL. 1880 Census shows Charles as "about 6 years of age" and does not list birthplace of his parents. Charles then married Ella Eudora Garlick, possibly in WI and then moved to Mankato MN. Charles worked for the Chicago Railroad in Mankato. I just received a copy of his death certificate and lists the parents as unknown. Can anybody help or give info on finding who Charles decended from by blood? I tried the Orphan Train with no luck.

To much to type. We have distilled the genealogical contents below. Edwardsville Intelligencer Rudolph was the proprietor of the Leland Hotel in Edwardsville. He died of Diabetes. The body was taken to Huntman’s Undertaking. Funeral Services were to be held the next Monday. From the Huntman Chapel to the Evangelical Church. Rev Schoppe was in charge. Burial was in Staunton He was a native of Germany where he was born April 17, 1857. He married Wilhemine Lish when he was young. They came to America when he was about 18 years of age. They came to Staunton about 1894. He worked in the Stanton coal mines, as a manager of the Terre Haute Brewing Company, he established the Staunton Bottling works, and had other investments. He was building a building on Vandalia street east of Litchfield & Madison offices. His wife died about 1909 and is buried at Staunton. Six of his nine children survive him. The children were Miss Helen Teufert and Fred, Henry and Adolph Teufert of Staunton and Miss Martha and Henrietta Teufert who came here with their father We suspect that you have the 1900 Census, however we include it in case you don’t have it. 1900 Census Staunton, Macoupin, Illinois Rudolph Tifcot, abt 1858 , Germany Wilhelmina Tifcot, abt 1858 , Germany Frederick Tifcot, abt 1878 , Germany Carrie Tifcot, abt 1881 , Germany Adolph Tifcot, abt 1883 , Germany Otto Tifcot, abt 1885 , Germany Martha Tifcot, abt 1887 , Germany Eda Tifcot, abt 1890 , Germany Olga Tifcot, abt 1892 , Illinois Helena Tifcot, abt 1894 , Illinois Henry Tifcot, abt 1896 , Illinois Henrietta Tifcot, abt 1897 , Illinois Contrary to the Obit the census says that there were 11 Children and that 10 of them were living in 1900. It also says that Rudolph came to the US in 1890. This makes sense when you look at the birth location of Eda. We checked of an obit of Wilhemine and could not find it. Good luck.
