    2. In a message dated 7/21/05 1:06:36 P.M. Central Daylight Time, CarlaHS@aol.com writes: According to later census information listed for their children, both William and Mary were born in Illinois. Did you find them in the 1880 census on familysearch.com. I found them by searching the US census for Walter Hunter born 1879. This says William Hunter's father was born in Indiana and his mother in Ohio. His father-in-law, J. Andrew Barlow is living with him, Rosette and 4 children. What exactly are you looking for that you can't find in the census records? Joan

    1. HUNTER / BARLOW
    2. I just received a disappointing copy of my GGrandparents' marriage certificate from the Adams County clerk's office. It contains nothing except proof that they were married. I was so hoping for some bit of information that could help me to learn more. I know there were several HUNTER and BARLOW families in Adams County and across the River in Missouri and in Iowa, but I have never been able to locate my grandparents in them. Perhaps someone on this list has seen them somewhere: William Henry Hunter and Mary Rose Barlow were married October 7th, 1869, in Adams County, Illinois by T. or F. Mitchell, Justice of the Peace. The witness was Charles B. Morton, who was the clerk. According to later census information listed for their children, both William and Mary were born in Illinois. I had heard that Mary Barlow was from Davenport or Des Moines, Iowa, but perhaps she only spent time there. Or perhaps the census info is wrong. This couple had several children, all of whom were (I think) born in Missouri, including my Grandfather, Walter Lee Hunter , who was born in LaGrange, Lewis County, MO on Oct. 13th, 1879, and died Nov. 9th, 1951 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He married Virginia Goodding on Thanksgiving 1900 in Macon County, Missouri. Other children were Cecil E. Hunter, born Jan 2nd, 1888, who married Grace Unknown and they both died in 1974 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Clyde Hunter; Beatrice Hunter; Myrtle Hunter who married H. H. Whitacre and lived in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She died in October of 1973. At some point around 1900, this family moved to Pulaski County, Arkansas. Two of their grandchildren were policemen on the North Little Rock force. I am not certain if William was still alive when the move was made to Arkansas. Thank you for any clue anyone may have, Carol Hunter Southwick

    2. Mary
    3. Hio all, I am new to the list. And I am having peoblwms locating my Grandfather. Below is what info I have, including possible parent info for him. The only info in this Family Group that I am sure of is my Grandmother , Mother, and Uncle info. Everything for Harry S. DAVIS is a big question mark. Recently I was told that he could be found in the 1920 Decatur census and that Mary was in 1900 Effingham Co. census with her family. Both I can not find anything on a census or even marriage for them or any family for him. What my Mother has told me is that his family was fairly well-to-do and didn't approve of my Grandmother and that he was a petty thief/gambler. I have no idea where to look for a criminal record that far back or even if they still have one on him. Can anybody give me a helping hand? Probably Dante or Blackstone Ave, near Stoney Island Ave which is 1600 east. I lived 7900 Ingelside and than 7700 EastEnd, which is 2 streets east of Stony Island. I lived there in 50& 60's. The east side of Stoney was probably still part of Grand Crossing, named for the park on 7600 S. Ingleside. In the 50's there were alot of Italians, Irish, Germans and some Jewish. East of Stoney was Jewish. My neighbor in Cicero lived on 7600th just west of Stoney Island. He was born in the 1920's. Al Forsberg was his name. He went to HIRSCH H.S. if that helps. 7700 S Drexel or Ingleside. Not sure where the closest Catholic Church was, maybe St.Francis De Paula on 78th and Ellis or Dobson. Paul Cornell elementary was on 7600 S. Drexel or Maryland. 7500 S. Stony Island was St.Connies Church, though not it's proper name. It was Greek. We were about 3 miles from the Beach (Rainbow) which we walked to daily in nice weather. Jackson Park Hospital was 7500 S. Stony Island. The Avalon Theatre, one of the most beatiful "shows" I have ever seen. It used to have live acts there before my time. It was about 1600 W. 79th St. Sears Roebuck was on 79th and Kenwood. Avalon Pizza was there also. Greenwood Ave between 76th and 79th was Italian, with the DeStephano family living there. I hung out with Sammy and Linda. The Nudo's were there also, and LaRoques, Carbone, and others. The area now is African American. I know my old house looks better now than the battleship gray of post war era. East of Stony I hear it's not the safest place to be. Believe it or not, I still know folks from my H.S. days (SouthShore) who still live there. That was 45 years ago. East of Stony was South Shore area. I lived in the only building owned by an Arab, with Germans on the 3rd floor, in the middle of a Jewish neighborhood. But everyone got along. In the 60 and 70's. CassiusClay/Mohamed Ali lived in a couple of places in the area. Lou Gerig lived on Chappell at 68th I believe. West of Stony were average homes, nice but average. East of Stony were wonderful apartments, and some very nice homes, especially on South Shore Drive by the Lake. What else can I tell you of this neighborhood? GINNY 2 vmartinez5946@aol.com
