HI Cris: The database you refer to is known to be incomplete, and this is stated on the site, I believe. The fact that you don't find the marriage there only means it probably is not there. I think it was 1875 when marriage were more regularly recorded, but not every county complied and recording was not required in IL until 1916 for B-M-D events. Bill

The Illinois State Marriage Index is located at: http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/marriage.html There is an article on using it at: http://www.rootdig.com/illinoismarriage.html The site contains information on how to obtain copies of actual marriage records as well. Hi everyone. My computer crashed last week and I just now got it back. Everything is gone, it is like a brand new machine. So if you have written to me personally since June 6th, please resend and I will try and answer. Take care. P.S. The person who sent me the addresses for Winn and Lederer, please resend. I am sorry that I can't remember your name as everything is gone. Thanks. Gerri

This won't help with your genealogy, but wondered if you knew the following. An FYI. Pech is a German word for "pitch", a chemical sticky tar-like substance. It also has the meaning of bad luck, misfortune, mishap, unfortunate. The reason for this usage was explained in a German course I took recently at the university. In the past farmers (and maybe others) put Pech on branches in trees. Birds would unknowingly land on the Pech-covered branches, get stuck in the Pech, the farmer would go over and pluck them off the tree limb, and bird became part of dinner. Bad luck for the bird anyway. So, such expressions exist in German langauge: Was für ein Pech! = Such bad luck! Too bad!! Ich habe Pech gehabt. = I was unlucky. Ich hab' Pech. = I'm unlucky, unfortunate. Pech! = Tough luck! Das ist Pech. = That is bad luck. In case you have an inquiring mind that wants to know. Bill in Denver
I received a couple of probate files I had ordered from IRAD. Although I had not requested it, included were three copies of the probate file for George KOLB of Desoto Township, Jackson County, IL. His will was written 9 August 1902 and the probate was filed 20 April 1910. His wife was named Florence and also mentioned are Robert KOLB, Emma J. McMAHAN. If these papers would be of interest to anyone, please let me know and I will send them to you. ~Karima
