I too am a navy vet (1956-1960), have advanced C.O.P.D., use oxygen, and on the verge of filing bankrupcy. But I don't sit here crying in my beer over it. I'm also a recovering alcoholic, 14 years thank you. If you have the 1930 census as you say you do, you will see they have been married circa 11 years. Where is Frank on the 1920 census? That might be the county they were married in. The Illinois counties gene societies may be able to find a marriage record. Their fees are usually minimal, use them. The ssdi is free on-line at RootsWeb. the records you need from paid subscription sites can be obtained as you are doing, posting requests. But as I've said, you do it one record at a time. Vague requests lumped into one post are not going to get you very far. Do any of your local area libraries have access to heritageQuestonline and offer at-home access? HQonline has census indexes & images. Good luck to you James, bo! th in health and your genealogical pursuits. Dick Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I came across a 1920 census record in Chicago of an Edward Thompson age 31 who immigrated to the U.S. in 1909. His wife's name is Margaret and their children are Ellinor, Edward, and Alice. Since some of the names you mention are in this family group I thought there might be a possible match here. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. But take it one specific record at a time when you post a request. Find your people on all available census records first. It gives you more to work with when searching for those colateral records. ECKHOFF, a native of this county and one of its most enterprising young farmer and stock-raisers, owns and operates 200 acres of land on section 21, township 16, range 12. He has just passed his thirty-second year, having been born May 11, 1857, and is of German parentage, being the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Oberkotter) Eckhoff, the father a native of Hanover, Germany, and the mother born in Prussia The father of our subject emigrated to America about forty years ago, and for three years was a resident of Cleveland, Ohio. There he met his future wife and was married, and to them were born five children, of whom four are living, namely: John H.; Annie, the wife of Albert Uhnken; Henry and T. F. Upon coming to Illinois early in the fifties they established themselves in Meredosia Precinct, and for several years thereafter the father rented land in both Morgan and Scott counties. In the fall of 1865 he secured the property now owned and occupied by our subject, and here the parents both died, the mother in 1872 and the father in 1883. The elder Eckhoff was a poor man when coming to this county, but at his death left an estate of 160 acres of land in addition to $8,000 worth of personal property. This fact indicates the success with which he labored and the manner in which he overcame the hardship and difficulties incident to pioneer life. Without making any great stir in the world he pursued the even tenor of his way in an honest and upright manner and while accumulating the wherewithal to make life comfortable and desirable, established himself in the esteem and confidence of his neighbors. He was the friend of religious and educational institutions and a member in good standing of the Lutheran Church, in which he served as a Trustee, and to the support of which he contributed liberally. Politically, he affiliated with the Democratic party, and served in the district as School Director. The subject of this sketch obtained his education in the public schools and grew up amid surroundings far different from those of the young men of today. He was thoughtful and intelligent beyond his years, and by a course of reading has always kept himself posted upon current events. His 200 acre farm is steadily growing in value under his good management and careful cultivation, and he has already become a man of note in his community. Marriage license number: 00105291. (Illinois State Database Web Address is: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html James Forrest immigrated to the US around 1856 ( or -) and was naturalized in 1865 according to all the censuses I found the family in (1900-1930). Alexandra immigrated in 1884 and was naturalized in 1889. James & Alexandra's children were: Ada Forrest born 2 July 1888; died 11 Nov 1987 in Evanston, IL (married Fred Brauch) William Kent Forrest born 22 Nov 1889 died unknown William Greig Forrest (used Greig) born 8 Nov 1893 died 22 Dec 1963 (married Lillian Fulton) James Forrest's parents were William (b 1832, Scot - died 0 Aug 1890, Cook County, IL) and Agnes (b 1828, Scot - died 31 Mar 1889, Cook County, IL). I found them using James' obit information. I located obits for some of the Forrest family but sorry to say I was unable to locate obits for James Kent, Ada (who also used the name Alexandra) or James' parents William and Agnes. If you contact me direct at [email protected] I can send them to you Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Yes, looking for these 3 aunts, 2 deceased and 1 living : 1) Maryann Mode, possible birth location, East St. Louis, Illinois, her possible date of birth : sometime after 1943. and her death : sometime in the late 80's or early 1990's. ,...This aunt maryann mode, deceased, has been a ghost to find. 2) Donna marie ( mode ) Heckert : possible birth date in late 1940's or mid 1950's., Possible death in late 1980's or 1990's. ( the current info you gave me was out of line for child births , so the info is incorrect, she was the 4th child, after my father he was born in 1943., my father james t. mode was the 2nd child. 3)Deborah Ann ( MODE ), ( BACKS ), GRAHAM : possible birth in mid to late 1950's. ( she is still living either in st. charles, missouri or south western, Illinois either in washington county or elsewhere. she's been married twice. note: I myself have traced my MODE family back too : Frederick Mode, born 1868, died 22 Aug 1929, He is my Great Great Grand Father and married too : Louise' born 1873 usa, to death in 1925 usa, I don't know Louise' maiden name but the spelling of her first name is LOUISE', I would like to find her parents names etc too. I have only fragments due to the fact that i'm not a paying member and currently doing this reaserch by trial and error, but what i do have now, i know is Correct. THE BONUS ROUND FOR ME IS : if i can find both parents of FREDERICK MODE BORN 1868 IN USA , full names and where they came from or even birth and death dates, it would hopefully let me know where the mode family came from. ONE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND RESEARCH!! James, the 5th generation Mode so far. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
