Actually most of them had left before 1820. Nettie Elizabeth Sorrels, daughter of Irvin Sorrels and Calona Kelly is buried at Wilson cemetery, Perry Illinois. She married Clyde Conrad. The Sorrels family intermarried a lot with the Redman family. Perhpas that is where the idea of an Indian came from. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: chastwn Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.unknown/12408.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Martha, I checked the Illinois State Census records, but didn't find any Elizabeth Shaw. However, it is possible that the record is just listed under her father's name. As for your question why her state of birth is changing, it is probably because of either who the census taker talked to during the course of him taking the information, or whoever he talked to misunderstood the question. There is often the wrong information on census records. The only thing they are good for is locating where a family is during the census year. On your question where she is buried, I'd check with the county in Wisconsin they were living in at the time. Since they seemed to move around in Wisconsin, I'd say check the county where William is living, as she died close to that census year. The next thing I would check obituaries on the children. They might give a clue as to where the mother is buried. If they stayed in the same area as they lived in 1870, then that will be your biggest clue where she is buried. I didn't check any further than 1870, so I don't know if William got re-married. If you know where William is buried, then check there too. If you have any further questions, just e-mail me directly. I have my GrGrGrandmother marring my GrGrGrandfather: Elizabeth Shaw to Wm. Henry Asbury in JoDavies Co., IL. In 1849. 1850 they are in WI. In the 1850 & 1860 census, before GrGrGrandmother's death, one census states OH, another IL, after these, her children state: WI, IN. I know that there are Shaw's in both IL and WI but I am hoping that maybe a 1845 census, might be able to help me locate at least all Elizabeth Shaw's born abt: 1834, no matter which state. This way, I can try and contact each state and see if they might have biographical sketches of that time peroid that would lead me to see if any of these could indeed be my GrGrGrandmother. I would rather not leave a stone unturned, as what we always seem to think is, isn't. My family seem's to have many mis-leads. Sometime around late 1869 or early 1870 she dies. And we still cannot find her grave in WI. Thank you all very much. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
