William BERNARD, the first of Andrew's and Jessie's children to be born in Illinois, married Eva Mae OLIVE/OLIFF who was born in Braidwood, Will Co., IL 15 Apr 1884 according to her death certificate. She died on 9 May 1967 and the informant was her daughter. Rosa Mae's adoptive parents were William H. OLIFF/OLIVE/OLIVER (b. Jul 1849 Ohio) and Rosa LONG/LANG (b. Dec 1842 Baden). William OLIVER was 12 yrs. old in the household of Benjamin SUTLIFF in 1860 in Huron Co., OH. In 1870 Huron Co., still in Benj. SUTLIFF's household, he is William OLIVE. The 1880 Census has 31 yr. old William OLIFF in the household of Mary E. LINDSLEY, a 51 yr. old widow in Huron Co., OH. Also in the home is 38 yr. old Rosa LONG who was in the same family's household in 1870 as Rosa LANG. By 1900 William and Rosa are in Orange Co., TX with May Eva, 16 yrs. old, and Albert OLIFF, 12 yrs. old, both born in Illinois and adopted. That 1900 Census says Eva Mae's father was born Virginia and her mother born Illinois. I have a prospect for her biological father - a 19 yr. old coal miner, John PURCALL/PERCELL, living with his widowed mother Bridget in Braidswood, Will Co., IL in 1880. He shows born in Virginia and Bridget in Ireland. So far I haven't found marriage or birth records for Will Co. on the internet. Author: chatterchit Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.unknown/12430.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Here are a couple things you could try: 1) Contact the church directly: Centennial United Methodist Church 219 S 2nd St Rockford, IL 61104 (815) 965-8611 2) Find books and records at libraries (As far as I know, none are available in bookstores.) There are several books that have been written, along with records that have been compiled. To see a detailed list of these and the libraries in which they are located, go to www.worldcat.org. If your local library does not have copies of the books, you may be able to borrow them via InterLibrary Loan - ask your librarian. For the archival materials, email/contact the libraries directly on how you can gain access. You might have to contact local genealogy societies to see if they have volunteers (or paid genealogists) who can access archives. Note: When searching for books/materials watch out for "centennial" - sometimes it refers to a church's 100-year Centennial Celebration, not the actual name of the church. (It can be confusing.) Here's the list of available materials (again, use worldcat.org to see full details/locations): 1. Third Street Church of Centennial United Methodist Church, Rockford, Illinois: bk. 1, 1857-1866, bk. 2, 1868-1876. by Daughters of the American Revolution. Rockford Chapter (Rockford, Ill.) There are a couple of sources for it as well: 1. Directory of Centennial M.E. Church by Centennial Methodist Episcopal Church (Rockford, Ill.) Book Publisher: Rockford, Ill. : The Church, [1910] 2. 2. That's a shame. Wonder why they didn't just give the information they had to some library and then start meeting in a non-profit organization's space, instead of just quiting altogether. Could this be some kind of misunderstanding? There are thousands of Genealogy Societies that operate that way. **************Make your life easier with all your friends, email, and favorite sites in one place. Try it now. The Andrew BERNARD family left Clackmannanshire, Scotland through Glasgow in 1881 after the birth of their 1st child Annie. Andrew traveled on the Circassia, David Overstone, Master, and arrived New York on 3 Aug 1881. Jessie [ROBERTSON] and Annie also took the Circassia, same master, from Glasgow and landed New York on 21 Dec 1881. Their second child, Mary, was born in Pennsylvania (location unknown) in Dec 1882. Five children were born in Illinois in 1885 to 1895 and Greta, the last, was born in Jefferson Co., TX in 1901. I have the Draft Registration of his brother William, the first child born in Illinois, but his was in Sep 1918 when they were no longer asking for place of birth. Some of the info. you furnished I have not been able to confirm: 1. His father Andrew d. Jefferson Co., TX 8 Dec 1919. 2. His mother Jessie d. Jefferson Co., TX 26 Jan 1918. 3. His brother Arthur d. Jefferson Co., TX 2 Oct 1934. Could you cite sources? I have 1900-1930 censuses and don't find an Arthur BERNARD in the family. One amazing aspect of this family is that they were coal miners in Scotland and engaged in rice farming near Beaumont, TX. Quite a change. To clear up the Eminizor/Timbrook confusion, you can throw out the whole Timbrook name from your search. For some reason, someone couldn't find Alice Timbrook's husband's name and assumed your Alice T. is Alice Timbrook (daughter of James Timbrook and Elizabeth Downs) because they knew she married a Newton. The real Alice Timbrook married James Newton (my great-great grandfather). My aunt has documentation and photos, but I just have to get them from her. I would keep searching around Thomas H. Newton and your Eminizor name to dig deeper. I just didn't want you to be searching Alice Timbrook for false information. I can tell you kinda sensed that something was weird about that.
