    1. [ILROOTS] Need Info on LUCY BELL or LUCY COY before 1870
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: clowbridge1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.unknown/12471/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Lucy b:1850 in Tenn.and Family. She married Henry Davis in ILL. in Dec.1870 and they both died in Pulaski Co. ILL. in 1914. No Death Cert. was located, only Probate File. When Lucy married she used the name as "Lucy Bell" but I have also seen it as "Lucy Bell(Coy)Davis". This may indicate that when born her name was Lucy Coy & maybe adopted to the Bell Family. They are both in the US 1880 & 1910 Census as being mulatto & residing in Pulaski Co. ILL. and Lucy only being married once. I need info on Lucy previously to the year that she was married (1870).Seeing that she was born about 1850 in Tenn. the family must have migrated to ILLinois sometimes between 1850 & 1870. I need help please. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. She was married to Lew Bowman. Her parents were Mary Quinney and William Dick, of the Stockbridge Munsee band. William Dick, who died in 1933, at the Milwaukee Infirmary, was known as the "Last of the Mohicans" because he was the last known person who could speak the Mohican native tongue. I am also looking for Philena's son, Elmer Bowman, who was born in 1900 in Shawano and lived in Milwaukee until he died, I believe. Lew Bowman died in 1929 and is buried in Shawano County. Philena is not buried with him. Any leads to obituaries would be greatly appreciated, possibly an online death index search for Milwaukee County? I haven't been successful. Sincerely grateful for any leads, Judean A. Unmuth Wise Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [ILROOTS] Cemetery Burials in Glenwood Twp, Winneshiek Co., Iowa
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Genedigger1966 Surnames: Page, Smith, Baker, Blake, Barthell/Barthel, McWilliams, Phelps, Sherman, Fuller, Robinson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.unknown/12466/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for descendants of families buried in the Smith/Baker/Page/Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood Twp., Winneshiek Co., Iowa. This is one pioneer cemetery that goes by a few different names. The cemetery is located on 143rd Ave just East of Decorah. In sect 21 of Glenwood Twp. In the past there has been a family from the Chicago area out looking for their relatives at that cemetery. Am trying to locate that family for more information. Currently the only known (proven and identified) burials at that cemetery are Wilson Smith d. April 1860 aged 44 years and Rev. Jonathan Page, 1811-Jan 24, 1861. Wilson Smith was a miller and was married to Sarah E.. Children of this couple were Wilson, Henry, Robert G. (aka George Robert), John W., Mary Elizabeth and Susan Amozilla. Susan A. married John Atchison. Mary E. married John G. Phelps (aka George). The widow Sarah E. married a T.W. Sherman on July 15th 1860 in Winneshiek Co., Iowa. She then reverts back to Sarah E. Smith in 1863 per the probate record of her late husband Wilson Smith. In 1868 she is now Sarah Fuller per the probate record of her late husband Wilson Smith. Rev. Jonathan Page was born 15 May 1811 in either VT or Lower Canada. The current research is pointing more to VT but not to the family of Jonathan Page (1770-1831) and Elizabeth Shields (1784-1842). This is a family that many researchers have him linked up with but the dates of birth for him and William do not work. These researchers replace the Jonathan b.1808 with my Jonathan b.1811. Jonathan (1808) has a family of record that does not match the family of record of Jonathan (1811). Back to my Jonathan. He married Lamirah Baker in 1831 in Dorset, VT. They moved to Ontario, Canada and their children were born there. Children are: Derius Barnes, Dorsen (died young), Cynthia Jane, Ebenezer, Martha, Dorson Dewey, and Charles. Cynthia J. married Heber Robinson. Martha married John Barthell. Dorson D. married a Mary (unknown). Ebenezer married Eleanor. Charles died January 1864 from wounds sustained in battle during December 1863. Derius died in either 1838 or 1893! depending on your source. Lamirah (Baker) Page died 24 April 1851 in Illinois and is burried there. Jonathan remarried in 1851 a Sarah () Blake, widow of John Blake. Children with John Blake were Amanda E., Hugh Bowers, David A., and William Harrison. Amanda E. married James McWilliams on 24 June 1855 in Winneshiek Co., Iowa. David marries a Margaret. Hugh Bowers married Lenora and they end up in Kansas. Children of Rev. Jonathan and Sarah are Sarah Lamirah b.1853. After the death of her father, and I am presuming death or remarriage of her mother between Apr. 1864 and Jan. 1866, Sarah, as a minor, is awarded to Hugh Bowers Blake for guardianship by the court in Allamakee Co., Iowa. This award states that the guardianship is based on the fact that she is a minor heir to Jonathan Page deceased. She is the 1/2 sister of Hugh Bowers Blake. There are reported to be 30 burials in this cemetery and they are all supposed to be relatives. I need help from descendants to get the names of these people. If you have any information please contact me at [email protected] Thank you! Donna Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: dcgardner37857 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.unknown/3728.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Try the largest university or college library in the area. If that is unsuccessful, contact your local library. They have "interlibrary loan" whereby they can order most anything available on microfilm. The charge is about $3/roll plus about $3 shipping for up to about 3 rolls. You can use the microfilm at the library on their viewer (sorry, they won't let you take it elsewhere) anytime during that month. When ordering, give them as much information as you can provide, specifically the name of the publication, and the date (or range of dates) in which you are interested, eg (fictitious): The Chicago Tribune, July 4-10 1890. I suspect most newspapers - if still in business - have an archives department which may be able to help in a search of their articles, again for a fee but I don't know how much. I hope this helps. Best wishes. Darryl C Gardner Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
