Virginia, you can find a lot of information on this site without paying a fee for looking. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/irad/iradholdings.html Of course, if you want or need a certified copy, there are fees for that, but I have found many of my ancestors records on this site without ever paying a penny! I am looking for a marriage or death record for a couple that lived in Illinois (somewhere) in the 1880's. Is it possible that I would find anything for those years? I pulled up six records for Francis Jeffery marriage but need to join to look at them. His wife, Elizabeth Rogers died there. Is this something you can do for a couple months and is it hard to cancel? They lived there such a short time. Thanks for any help. Author: gardeners1 Surnames: PARKHOUSE Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.unknown/12472/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, the last record of James was found on 3 July 1865, in the "Ninth Ward Enumeration, Chicago City, Cook" where all the family are shown. However in the 1870 Clinton, Iowa census, wife Elizabeth with all her children was shown, but no James. According to her obituary in May 1903, in Jamestown, North Dakota, it states that James died 36 years previously. This ties in with an account by son George Thomas that he had to sell newspapers in Chicago in the mid 1860's to help his widowed mother. Although I know there is a lack of death records in Chicago around 1866/7, I have been trying for years to find such a record ( family details on www.parkhouseonline.com ). It may be that he died at sea, or on the Great lakes as he was originaly a ship's carpenter. Can anyone help??
