    2. Jerry Kattke
    3. I would like to follow up on a newspaper article (part of it is appended) on a dispute between an ancestor and the Illinois Department of Agriculture. There was a lawsuit involved, and I am also chasing the court records, but I called the Dept of Agriculture in Springfield to ask for their records of this incident and was told that they retain records for only 6 - 10 years. Hmm. I'm not sure I believe it. Does anyone have experience trying to get records from the Department of Agriculture? Or maybe the State Archives would have it? Thanks Jerry Kattke [email protected] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Chicago Tribune, 12 Sep 1948: LIVE STOCK TRADER HEAD DEFENDS “TIPS” FOR DEALER SERVICE Suspension of 30 Chicago hog dealers for periods of 10 to 30 days by the department of agriculture is a “matter between the department and the individual registrant,” Leo R. Miller, president of the Chicago Live Stock Traders Exchange, said yesterday. The exchange represents 340 dealers and order buyers. The suspension was ordered under authority of the packers and stock yards act by the department, which charged the dealers with falsifying financial reports and paying “thousands” of dollars in bribes for “preferred” services at the stock yards. <snip>

    1. Re: [ILROOTS] Illinois Divorces 1925-1930
    2. IRAD, the official IL website, allows you to put in the names without putting in the name of the county. Put in the date limits and see what you get. If you are lucky, you will find the county where the divorce took place, and can write to that county. If nothing at all comes up, try first one name and then the other. Author: brandilynnallen Surnames: Miller Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.unknown/12497/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for any information on Ellison Miller. He was married to an Elizabeth. He may have lived in Shawneetown or Equality, Illinois in the mid-1800's. He had sons named Charles and Harry, and more children that I don't know the names of. I do know that he worked as a sharecropper on land owned by a Mr. Miller, and took the last name of Miller for himself. He is said to be Shawnee, but I don't know the name he had before taking Miller as his last name. He sent his sons Charles and Harry to look for work in the coal mines, and they never saw him or the rest of their family again. When Charles went back to try to find them, he was told that they had been relocated, but nobody knew where. If anyone has any information, I would love to hear it. Author: peggyc2sky Surnames: Freeman Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.unknown/12493.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks, Dick Yes, I have managed to sort out that Mary R. is indeed Dolly as someone researching the Freeman family has sent me some photos yesterday. Plus the various censuses sent by you and others. The missing child on the 1900 is Violet who was married to Walter Lintott in 1895 which is now on the Illinois Archives. I presume Mary R (Dolly) is still single in 1900 although I don't have the actual image to confirm this. I do know that Dolly remarried to William Paul Miller by 1918. What I still don't know is the first name of her first husband which appears to be Hartman as Dolly is divorced in 1910 and living with her parents and there is a granddaughter Marion Hartman. Dolly has had one child. Violet has had 3 children by 1910, 2 are with her and one is deceased, so Marion can't belong to her. On the back of one of the photos I just received it states that Minnie (which has to be Agnes)married William Buzzell and I can't find him either on the marriages for Illinois. Gertrude marri! ed Sidney Estee. Anyway, still chasing Dolly/Dollye's first husband which apparently happens between censuses. Marion is 5 in 1910 so born 1905 approx. I wonder if there is a divorce database. Thanks for your help. Peggy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The 1910 enumeration for the TREEMAN h/h (as indexed on Ancestry), has Marion Hartman as g-daughter. Dolly Treeman is enumerated as born 1879 Canada so Marion's mother could be Mary R. or the 5th child missing from the 1900. Might want to pursue this a bit further.
