I did too in March. I had saved it as a favorite but usually just googled and typed "Secretary of State" Illinois. (Much faster to type than to scroll down through Favorites. I KNOW there must be fast ways to use Favorites but I'm computer illiterate.) Anyway, at the Illinois Historical Society Symposium, I talked to the speakers who came from the Archives. Since we could access the site from Illinois College, we decided it must be my computer. My husband had recently updated Norton or something. We thought that maybe a setting had changed at that time. Well, I kept typing in the website name, the above google, etc. Nothing! One day in mid June, as I scrolled through Favorites, I clicked on the Archives site. Yeah! It worked. I have no idea why. At the Archives a couple of days later, I ran into one of the speakers, who had tried to help me at the symposium. Nothing had been changed on their end. I! will contact her and tell her how to check your message on this message board. If I were you, I'd contact David A Joens, Director of the Archives, at 217-782-3492. As you may know, the folks at the Archives are very helpful. They were genuinely concerned that I was having problems reaching the website. If there are others who have a similar problem, I imagine that they would want to know so they can check on it. Hope this helps. Author: RDeatherage9395 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.unknown/12527.2.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, I know where Thomas Gambell was in 1900. What I originally said was Herbert Ray was with his grandmother and stepgrandfather in 1900, inwhich he was, and Bert was in Iowa with Herbert's mother. We seem to be having a communication deficit going on and understanding what is actually being said. I never said Thomas was anywhere on 1900 in postings. I don't know why you think I did. I said little Herbert was with grandmother. I know some sad stories on Herbert's childhood and father's temper because I read the old newspapers. You may also do so as they are online and searchable. I won't leave you a direct link to find them as it causes spam to the site if I do. To find the online database though is easy. Go to google 'dot' com (can't leave link but this gives you the idea). When there enter in the search space Quincy Historical Newspaper Archive Your 'hit' coming up should be Quincy Public Library Click it and you should arrive to the newspaper database. Forget I keep putting an 'e' in Quincy, I know better just never remember to not do it. I'm not so awful, I just have little tolerance for people who are asking for help and then become slamming in their replies with 'attitude'--I just gave you a bit of your own 'tactics' back at you in my own reply to you--just to show you it is not a nice way to keep getting assistance. I do actually hope you find your necessary information to form your tree and am pleased to hear you have actually found and ordered some of the documentation. So many people don't bother with that part of gathering their family tree and it's an important part of it for future generations. Your on your way, you are just getting frustrated along your path. Keep at it, you'll get there. I hope you find the paper database without much trouble, but as I said, leaving direct links causes problems for the site linked to and I don't wish to cause them spam. Asking people to look-up counties for you. Geez, google the name of town/city and you'll find you yourself will find the answer to your lazy question. Don't be so sure I don't know what I'm talking about, bet I've researched and extremely correctly alot longer than you have. But feel free to go right ahead and toss stones at those who happen to be a bit better at it than you are. Curious. Have you happened to obtain clips of the old newspaper stories on your Herbert Ray? He was quite the little rebel and his father seems to have had quite the temper. Sad. In any case if you don't open your eyes to facts in your case you will miss what you are looking for. And while you insist Mildred was named this or that you best keep in mind that people get listed on census records in what ever manner the taker manages to get them recorded. You can blow me off on what whatever I gave as far as information that you please, but you're in denial if you actually believe Bert's father was named 'Robert'. Robert was the name of his stepfather. And it was Bert's mother who got stuck trying to keep Herbert Ray under control. But I really could not care less if you ever get true and accurate information for your family tree. You seem to have a problem with dates also. I did not say Bert was not in Iowa in 1900, I said he was in Missouri in 1910. If you will see the old newspaper clippings from Quincey from about 1907 thru 1930's you will see this family did not stay put and came and went from the area in the manner of a few months onloy to repack and return and/or move again. But, hey, happy searching to you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
