    3. Henri D'Hooghe of Belgium signed a Letter of Intent to become a citizen in Rock Island County Court on 1 Nov 1883. I am trying to find the ship passenger list for his arrival by viewing LDS film starting with Nov 1883 and working backwards. So far I have viewed 4 films for New York City arrivals back to 9 July 1883. I have observed that there are not very many ships arriving from Antwerp, and even on those ships there are not many Belgians. I have seen occasional Belgians on ships from several other European ports. It is said that he arrived at age 18. I have his birth record showing birth on 25 Jan 1864 in Hansbeke, so if he came sometime in 1882, I have an excruciating film search ahead. It just seemed more likely to me that he arrived closer to the date that he filed the Letter of Intent. I am interested in the arrival date to determine paramters for his movements. He homesteaded in western Kansas in 1886 and then at time of proof in 1891 he went to Nebraska. I'm looking for where he was prior to 1 Nov 1883, as well as where he was between that date and the Homestead filing. I am wondering if there was a U.S. port other than New York that was more popular for Belgians, and particularly those coming to the Moline area. Any suggestions? Thanks for comments. John Fiala
