I have an IL Place Names Book put out by the IL State Historical Society http://www.prairienet.org/ishs/frames/books.htm The book has many old town names found in research/atlases..... I only found Macomb, no McComb. Looks like Macomb should be the place. I am copying the ILROCKIS-L maillist in case I am wrong. Macomb is in McDonough County, two counties south of Rock Island County in IL.
