Excerpts from the Rock Island Argus May 9, 1939 Friends and relatives assisted Oscar M. BRISSMAN in celebrating his 70th birthday anniversary last night in his home, 1412 Tenth Street. There were musical selections by the BRISSMAN quartet and a talk by the Rev. C. George ENGDAHL, pastor of the 1st Lutheran Church. Four generations of the family were represented. Mr. BRISSERMAN is owner of the O.M. BRISSERMAN Construction Co. Mr. and Mrs. Percy SIPES, 498 15th Ave., entertained at dinner last night in their home honoring Mr. and Mrs. Maurice HAZEN of 2745 13th Ave, who celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary tomorrow. Mrs. HAZEN is the former Miss Lula ARMSTRONG of Macomb. The Ada-Daba-Pada club met last night with Miss Phyllis MILES, 420 20th Ave. A theater party will be held May 22. In hearts, prizes were won by Miss Marguerite VOELCKER of Rock Island and Miss Velda SMITH of Moline. Miss Betty BARON was grand winner of the cake and cookie contest conducted by Girl Reserves at the YWCA and she was crowned queen at ceremonies Saturday night at the association building. The Moline Woman's Club chorus sang Sunday afternoon at the Lutheran hospital, the group going from floor to floor and presenting songs a cappella. Morris Craig PETERSON is director of the chorus. Mrs. Alfred MEIRE, 925 19th Ave, entertained at an afternoon party in her home to honor her daughter, Miss Helen MEIRE, who is to be married May 27 to Fred DeCOSTER.
