Hello Rock Islanders! I am seeking information on the family of my paternal grandmother, Helen Elizabeth "Nellie" BLAIR. She was born in Rock Island on December 4, 1881. I have heard (but cannot substantiate it yet) that her father was named Samuel BlairJr., that he either owned a pharmacy or worked as a pharmacist in Rock Island. Family legend tells that Mr. Blair was 1/2 Cherokee--his mother having come from North Carolina in 1838 over the infamous "Trail of Tears". Grandma Nellie married a German immigrant by the name of Joseph Edward FLEISCHMANN on March 21, 1899 at Davenport, Iowa. From there, the couple moved to St. Louis, Missouri; where they raised 11 children, including my father, Frank Aloys FLEISCHMANN.
