Greetings: I am new to this list and am hoping someone out there can help me. My great grandfather, CHARLES S. GALE, was a patient at Watertown Asylum at the time of his death January 18, 1899. He resided in Monmouth, IL but was taking treatments at the hospital when his death occurred. I inquired of Rock Island County if they would have the death record of a patient who died in this hospital. I was told they would; however, I mailed them a check for $15 and received only a letter in return indicating they had no record of his death. Does anyone know if death records were retained at the hospital, or perhaps returned to the county of residence? I have checked with what was East Moline State Hospital but they were unable to locate the requested information. Has anyone ever tried obtaining a death record for a patient at Watertown Hospital?
