I know what I am looking for; is there a way someone could find a library holding Rock Island, Moline, and Silvis papers? If someone could get copies for me and send them to me, I would be glad to pay postage, cost of copies, and throw in some for gas. I will be in Henry Co. next month and time does not permit me to also do research in Rock Island Co. Like I said, I know the articles and dates I am looking for. 3. Is there anyone whom I could pay (prode or bribe?) to go over to the Rock Island County Courthouse (the real one, not the annex! :-) and retrieve a copy of a will that was probated in 1960? A newer will has been found and we'd like to compare the dates and distribution of the estate before deciding whether to deal with the new one. Please answer privately. Diana Atlanta, GA

    1. [RockIsl'd] Hobert cousins
    2. Diana Muir
    3. Me again! To all my Hobert cousins from Muscatine and Rock Island counties, I have now figured out the ancestry of Leatha May Thomas (wife of Omar Hobert) and it tracks back to the House of Weymss and the 5th Earl of Fife. If anyone wants a copy of the gedcom, please let me know. Doesn't help on the Hobert side, but those that tie into the Thomas and Bailey line will have a fun time with it. It goes back to Adam! (Minus a 560 year period of non-recorded history :-) Diana

    3. Hi cousins, Just FYI, Cathryn Rachel (Miller) Tucker, daughter of Homer E. Miller and Amelia C. Hansen died on the 5th of August in Battle Ground, Washington and was buried next to her husband in Fulton, Whiteside County, Illinois on the 12th of August. Aunt Cathryn was 89 and had a very full life. Lots of the Miller/Hansen cousins showed up and it was fun to reacquaint ourselves with cousins we hadn't seen for 40+ years. Diana Atlanta, GA

    3. Good morning, I think I need to give a little more information on my search. This is the family of Albert and Lorenzo as found in the Oregon 1860 census: Starr's Point Precinct Pontius Howard (father) 40 b NY Sarah 34 b Ohio Albert 17 b ILL Alpheus 10 b ILL Mary A, 4 b ILL (This is a wrong birthplace, the family was in Oregon in 1953) Adelia C. 18 b ILL Orin 7 b OR Ellen 4 b OR Lorenzo 2 b OR The names of Albert and Lorenzo appearing together in the Rock Island Probate case interested me because I hadn't run into the two names connecting since the Oregon 1860 census. Don't know if Lorenzo was a child of one of the boys or what. Jacqueline

    1. REPLY [RockIsl'd] Albert and Lorenzo P. HOWARD
    2. Albert Howard age 26 born Illinois appears in the 1870 census INDEX in Benton Co, Starrs Point PO page 87. Wm Howard, age 57 born Ohio was on page 80 of the same census. You didn't mention what Albert's father's name was....but I assume this William must be him? There were other HOWARD entries in Benton Co, but these were the only two in Starrs Point PO. I don't have access to the actual census...this is only index information. You will have to seek out someone with Oregon census access if you don't have it yourself. I did find an 1880 listing for a William Howard as follows: Monroe, Benton Co, Oregon page 109D Geo W. Howard age 24 IA OH IL Millisa Howard wife 25 Or -- -- Emsl son 2 OR IA OR William Howard father 67 OH -- -- Robert Howard brother 28 OR OH IL Eddy Williams farm laborer 20 OR -- -- Ertip Gilbert laborer 22 IA NY IN In Township 40, Nez Perce , Idaho page 251D there is the following listing for an Albert Howard. Albert Howard farmer age 36 b ILL NY OH Sarah Howard wife 22 OR MO MO William Wilde laborer other 28 Eng Eng Eng. Note...while this Albert's father is shown to be born in NY....see that his wife, Sarah, is born in OR...which might be a hint that this Albert was the one who was in Oregon and thus the guy you might be looking for. I did a quick check of Illinois...and didn't see an Albert there of interest. There was a 22 year old Lorenzo...son of a George Howard in Macon Co, Decatur page 374 D of the 1880 census. This George was born in Illinois and about age 45. This Lorenzo was 22 and born in Illinois. However, I don't think this is your Lorenzo from the limited data you posted. That's about all I can do from here...I hope this helps. Julie Bissell Tupker

    2. Jacqueline
    3. Good evening, I am still searching for information on Albert and Lorenzo P. HOWARD. Someone emailed me that there was some info but the information never arrived.......so will try again. In the Rock Island Probate cases I find the names Albert Howard and Lorenzo P. Howard which are both family names. Albert Howard did travel to Oregon in 1850 with his family however I cannot find him after the 1860 census, on that census both Albert are numbered, Albert 17 and Lorenzo 2. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jacqueline

    3. All that are looking for Naturalization Records for RI might try the LDS Family History Centers near you to see what the library in Salt Lake City has availavle. The Family History Centers have access to nearly all the items that are in the stacks in SLC. The Centers are free to anyone that can walk in and the only charge is for the rental of any microfilm or microfich that you order. You will be suprised what they have available.
