    3. Hi, Nancy, Happy New Year! I see you are still on the track of your Hamrick family. I checked the 1930 census on Ancestry.com. There was only one Rozella Hamrick. Here's the listing: 1930 Federal Census Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan E.D. 144, P. 8A Glen Hamrick, roomer, 32 years old, married at 28, born Illinois, both parents born Illinois, decorator, homes Mildred Hamrick, (wife crossed out and roomer written in), 21 years old, married at 18, born Indiana, both parents born Indiana, no employment Rozella Hamrick, (daughter crossed out and roomer written in), 3 9/12 years old, single, born Colorado, father born Illinois, mother born Indiana Hope this is helpful. 3. Happy New Year to all! I was wondering if anyone has any information on Rozella Hamrick who died October 1, 1972. She appears in the Death Index Rock Island area 1970's vol 5 H through K compiled by Dwight Mohlenbruck in 1966. Would anyone know who her parents were or the year in which she was born? Would anyone be able to look up her obituary? Thanks. Nancy

    3. It really depends upon the time period. If they landed in NY before 1836, it was generally by train to the midwest. If they were Irish, they could be 'two boat' people, coming through Canada, across the Great Lakes and down, before 1845. It was cheaper to buy 2 tickets, than 1 straight to NY. If they were Irish, after 1845, they most likely came up the Mississippi from New Orleans, or by train from the East Coast. All depends on the nationality and time. :-) Diana Glenda Meyers wrote: > Some sailed around to New Orleans and came up the Mississippi river by river > boat. 1. Re: [RockIsl'd] holiday present from a fellow genealogist
    2. I am no expert on this but I think that many of them came down the Ohio River to Southern IL and then came north. I have one article on my Wagner family that tells about the journey from PA to Fulton County, IL. The newcomers were terrified of the thunderstorms in this part of the country. It also seems that many would stop for a year or two before going farther west. At least mine stopped in central IL long enough to have two children before going on to Iowa. It also depends on what dates we are talking about as the railroads started running in northern IL in the 1850's. I also have a family that started out in MD and went first to VA (now WVA) and then to Ohio and finally they settled in southern IL and then one son (mine) went north and west to Iowa. Wagons were the mode of transport on the prairies. This one was a real traveler as after a number of years in Iowa he went on to Dade County, MO. Marilyn
