Interesting isn't it to find these things.
My husband's 2nd great-grandfather was also in this regiment. Samuel Conklin. He died shortly after the war in Camp McClellan ( now the Village of East Davenport). Sandi
Neno was the old Cabry guy's name. Just hit me
Thanks and that explains it . Will Check it out.
Carboy is a typical aol spell checker change to suit aol. Cabry is the right name. Emi(?) Cabry. Owned Cabry Real Estate at the corner of 7th street and 17th Avenue in East Moline right up the street from a filthy little greasy spoon. It is almost at the end of the single lane cement highway that runs behind the state hospital out to old rte 2 & 92. Art
> Cook School, the one room shanty near the Carboy > estate? Sure would like to find a picture of it. I have never heard of it at all and lived here all my life but we can check it out for you. Also never heard of a Carboy estate??? Marilyn
Anyone here who went to Cook School, the one room shanty near the Carboy estate? Sure would like to find a picture of it.
Reading some things on this list I want to mention that the 1st IA Light Artillery was discharged in Davenport at the end of the Civil War. My grgrandfather from Guthrie County, Benjamin Franklin Ware, was one of them. He had measles and was hospitalized in Arkansas and then had "consumption" yet made the March to Atlanta with Sherman. He died in Stuart, IA a short time after the end of the war. I also have the entire roster of the IA 1st Light Artillery if anybody is interested. Marilyn IL > >
