    3. I visited the web site and found it very interesting, but when I sent an e-mail to the address listed, [email protected], it came back. I am interested in Dunlap Cemetery, Edgington Twp. According to the web site this cemetery is abandoned, is it still accessible and do you have directions? I am interested in all of the McNutt graves, particularly in the graves of Jane, Barnett, and Margaret, also Margaret Nuckolls. Thanks so much for your help. ----- Original Message ----- From: "JULIE MCELROY" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 04, 2003 1:47 AM Subject: [RockIsl'd] New Web site > Hi List > > I have a New web site, for families in Rock Island Co, Illinois. > Would like to share it with the list. 3. I pasted the address in and it came up with nothing but a Christmas type card, deer and a picture of a lady. Am I missing something here? Would love to have a good address for Rock Island sites. 3. For newspaper lookups you can order the microfilm through your local library at no cost. Your local reference desk can help. There is a reference book called "Newspapers in Microform..." and it lists by state/city what papers were printed during what time period, how frequently they were printed and what papers they may have merged into or from. Once you know which paper to request, you can submit a microfilm request to the librarian. We can order ours locally online. I have copies of applicable pages from the microform book at home... Hope this helps. This is a very easy and cheap way to research! 3. Ok Nancy, I'll see what I can come up with then. Obits are real nice to have, and that's pretty much what we're looking for. We found some of our families burial sites listed in Lexington (online), it's just we haven't been able to find any trace of those I listed for you there in Maine. Have no clue about Jane's family, it's like they dropped off the face of the earth. :( So burial sites and obits are the goal here. :) Linda >From: "nancy" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [RockIsl'd] Obituary look-up >Date: Sun, 24 Aug 2003 18:54:42 -0400 > >Linda, > >I'll see what I can do. > >I don't really have enough information on Bertha, only her date of death. >I >don't need the birth certificate only an obit. 3. I wouldn't want you to have to go to that much trouble, I mean six hours is a long way to go. But if you find anything at your local library on James and Jane Strickland Allbee, or the Hersom family, I'd appreciate hearing about it. James b: abt 1801 Maine Jane b: abt 1809-1814 Maine Their children: Elias H. Allbee (M: in IL Died: in North Dakota) Mary Jane Allbee (M: Augustus Hersom, son of Samuel Hersom, Lebanon ME) Sarah Ann (M: Harrison Fuller in IL) Salome (sometimes called Saline) (M: Joseph Fuller jr in IL) Otis Strickland Allbee C.Vernon Allbee David Henry Allbee (M: Rachel J. O'Dell dau. of Elisha & Hannah (Williams) O'Dell) We've got names, dates, what we're looking for now is some trace of them in Maine before they settled in Illinois. And pictures if we get lucky of them in life. We haven't a clue as to most of their burial sites. I should be going to the Rock Island library as soon as this heat wave we've been hit with lets up a bit, and I'll see if I can find anything out for you. But I need the birth dates and as many details as you can give me. Court House has Death Certificates back so far on computer, then the rest they expect you to make arrangements to research yourself. Not sure what they charge for Death Certificates, but their rates for Marriace Certificates just went up to $12.00 each, so you have to know what you're after. Plus another condition they have is that you have to be a family member to place an order. You also have to sign for them, just one of their precautions against fraudulent use. Talk about a coincidence though, who knows what we may be able to come up with now. :) Linda >From: "nancy" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [RockIsl'd] Obituary look-up >Date: Sun, 24 Aug 2003 18:09:17 -0400 > >Linda, > >I live in a small rural town, population 300, on the coast about 6 hours >from York. 3. Nancy The newspaper would have to be either the Rock Island Argus, or the Moline Dispatch (merged recently) or The Quad City Times in Davenport. Rock Island Argus Rock Island, IL 61201 (309) 764-8868 Moline Dispatch Publishing CO 1720 5th Avenue, Moline, IL 61265 (309) 764-4344 Quad-City Times - Circulation 500 East 3rd Street, Davenport, IA 52801 (563) 383-2250 (They can direct you to the right department) Not sure but I think the Public Library has access to some of that information: Referrence Librarians are usually a great help. Obituaries in some communities aren't on computer for ready access, in some areas you do have to pour through their old record books in which case this could be very time consuming. Just depends on the year and condition of the records as to who gets to go through all these records. Rock Island City of Library - Main Library 401 19th Street, Rock Island, IL 61201 (309) 732-7323 Hope this helps and the best of luck in your search. 3. Dear Rock Island, Illinois website, Why do the majority of the websites go back to ancestry.com? It has become a monopoly!! I can't even pull up the old free websites any longer with search engines. It seems that have been purchased by ancestry.com.!!! What gives? Is anyone else having this problem? 1. [RockIsl'd] Pix Gertrude Weber cir 1916
    2. Jean Taylor
    3. I have a pix of Gertrude Weber which is included in my grandmother's photo albums. It also is noted: Johnston & Railsback. My grandmother, Alice Bisant, lived in Rock Island county and worked in Moline, IL so I am guessing that this is an office in Moline or at least in the Quad Cities. If anyone is interested in having a copy of this pix, please email me privately. Jean Taylor in Indiana

    1. [RockIsl'd] Schebler surname about 1921
    2. branches
    3. I am helping a friend get started on her line. Her grandmother was Regina WITT born about 1905 IL, dau of Julius C. WITT and Anna K. ZIMMER. Julius was listed in the 1920 and 1930 census for Rock Island. I was able to follow the Witt line back through the census years to Davenport, IA. She has a good framework on this side, but she wants to concentrate on her grandfather's side of the family first. Regina was listed in the 1920 census with her parents. Her husband SCHEBLER is proving more difficult. Regina probably married him about 1921/2 in Rock Island. They had a son named Charles William Schebler born 7 Oct 1924 in Michigan. Two more children were born, Robert and Doris. I can't find any of this Schebler family in the 1930 census at ancestry. Family tradition states that Mr. SCHEBLER left Regina and took the two boys with him. The only other record I found was the CA Death Index for Charles. He died in Van Nuys in 1993. Regina married Alexander Nussbaum in Rock Island. Alexander is still living at home in the 1930 census. I have a very narrow time frame that Mr. SCHEBLER was in Rock Island. 1920-1924. There are too many SCHEBLER's in other areas and no additional clues to narrow it down. If anyone has an index to marriages, cities directories or other items from the early 1920's, can they check for a male SCHEBLER. I don't want to encourage her to order any certificates until she has more info. [email protected]
