    3. Watertown St Hospital. Rec'd a 1918 death rec for person who was said to have died in Watertown St. Hosp. in E. Moline, Rock Island Co, IL. Would like to know for sure what type of hospital it is. AND has anyone been able to obtain any records from it? and may I say the person that filled out the cert. barely filled in enough to show that the person died. could be they were busy as the cause was influenza and seems to me 1918 was prime time for influenza deaths. They have alot on file for Rock Island, Moline, Milan area newspapers that I've found from the 1850's forward. 3. Jane Most of those little newspapers that were in business back then, have long since folded up. But if I don't come across something in 1918 for your Haddick name, I'll also make a few inquiries to see if anyone thought to salvage these old newspaper files back then. There's a new museum on the Moline Rock Island border that I haven't gotten in to see yet. From what I've been told they've collected artifacts from the surrounding communities to house them in one place. Who knows maybe they've got old newspapers too. I'll see what I can do, but like I said earlier, back then obits weren't something they gave any great attention to in their newspapers. I brought it up with her as I noticed that most obits were just one or two lines and the only write ups of any size were for folks that had been heavily involved in the community. 1. [RockIsl'd] German Newspaper 'Ostfriesische Nachrichten' - later 'Ostfriesen Zeitung'
    2. Boyken & Boyken Partners
    3. Dear Listmembers, The old German newspaper "Ostfriesische Nachrichten" was published by Pastor L. Hündling [Huendling} in 1882 in Iowa as a connecting paper between the people in the new American settlements and the old homeland with news and events in Ostfriesland and the "New World". Later you could find this newspaper all over the U.S. and Ostfriesland. For the period between 1882 and 1915 the issues were microfilmed around 20 - 30 years ago. According to a descendant of Pastor Huendling about 10 years ago, most of the issues between 1916 and 1971 got lost on the way to a processing center to be microfilmed. Besides Rev. Kenneth DeWall and others, who published in the past some indexes of (only) obituaries, we started in 1997 reading each newspaper for 1882 - 1915 and 1916 - 1971 (single issues) from the front to the back and taking all of the personal data in obituaries and local news into computer files. We added also interesting stories about the events in the New World - especially for the German readers -. So far we have listed 10,300 names of deceased between 1882 and 1915 plus 12,300 names of relatives, and until 1971 only 2,000 deceased / 5,000 relatives. Now we are looking for issues of this newspaper between 1916 and 1971. The undersigned would appreciate your answer if you have access to those issues. We have the microfilms from Crest Information Technologies and Heritage Crest, both in Cedar Rapids, IA. Most of the single issues after 1916 are scattered all over the U.S. and Germany. We guess, maybe finding them in the attics, etc. of old East Frisian settlements in the States. Thank you very much in advance for your help in preserving the data. Sincerely, Hans-Georg Boyken Ostfriesland-Society of Iowa, Inc. [email protected]

    3. Hi Jo Ann, I have been to the Dunlap Cemetery. I live close. My husband's earliest ancestor is Joseph Dunlap who is buried there and for whom the cemetery is named. I have a list of the burials there. The cemetery is accessible but you have to know where it is. I have some pictures of the cemetery as a whole and my Dunlap markers and their relatives. Can I help you Sincerely, Jan Dunlap ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jo Ann Collier" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 29, 2003 10:40 AM Subject: Re: [RockIsl'd] New Web site > I visited the web site and found it very interesting, but when I sent an > e-mail to the address listed, [email protected], it came back. 3. My gr grandmother was Clarinda McNutt, she married Andrew Lewis Condon. I recently found out her grandparents were Jane and Barnett McNutt and according to the 1850 and 1860 census, she and her brother John and sister Salinda were living with them in Rock Island County. I do not know who her parents were, but according to her obituary she had a half brother, George Nuckolls. So perhaps her mother was re-married. Maybe you know there is a McNutt web site at www.mcnuttfamily.org. Perhaps there is a connection with your line somehow. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shawnnee Ramey" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 29, 2003 1:10 PM Subject: Re: [RockIsl'd] New Web site > I have to change that email.
