    3. Yes the report I read said that not all of the folks buried there were moved. I've got a couple of inquiries out now and I'm sending out more, maybe we can find out what actually happened back then. >From: "kathy" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: RE: [RockIsl'd] Watertown Hospital >Date: Mon, 22 Sep 2003 07:00:45 -0600 > >I have found a relative that died at the hospital. 2. We have another thought on finding the cemetery of people who died at the State Hospital. We have a man here who has published about 26 volumes of Death Records and we will call him later this morning and see if he has anything on the State Hospital.

    2. I am sorry but we used to do free look-ups and were inundated by work. We had to stop since it was just impossible to keep it up. Now the only way is to contact the Historical Society for information. There is a small charge depending on how much information is found.

    1. Re: [RockIsl'd] Re: older newspapers (Plus ? museum)
    2. We are doing our best to explain it to you. The Rock Island County Historical Society has a library and the library is attached to an historical house that is a museum. The Downtown Public Library needs renovation and therefore, their things are now at the Rock Island County Historical Society Library. There is a Website for the Rock Island County Hitorical Society also. I tried earlier to put the link and URL into the mail but AOL is acting up today so it didn't go through. And we do have a list of the Watertown Hospital of the people who died there but I don't think it lists the cemetery. I could be wrong on this. The older newspapers are on microfilm at the Historical Society. You can write the soceity and have a search done or you can come yourself and the volunteers will help you find what is needed. Since I can't seem to send you the link for the website please go to Rock Island County Historical Society as a search and it should bring it up instantly. Marilyn Z

I am not sure about Deere and Company doing it. The name of the Corporation is Deere and Company and the place called John Deere Company was only a small branch office in the town of Moline. Therefore, I doubt that there are any records at all. As my husband is a volunteer researcher at the Rock Island County Historical Society we have gone through this same discussion many times during the past six years. No records available anyplace here but it could be possible that something could be found in Illinois State Archives and that is call IRAD. There is a website for it but don't have it marked.

    3. Well, Thank you all for so much information today, it does seem that my question re: the location of the records and buildings has been answered. Please do not be concerned with creating confusion in your communication. Confusion can always be cleared up but without people willing to share what they have we would all have lost out on a lot of information we are in search of. So please don't let this quiet you! Thanks again for taking the time to set me straight. 2. It was Gov. Thompson who made the dedcision to close most all the state hospitals. I had moved with the husband to Germany after I had gotten my nursing license, He got laid off from John Deere, and joined the Army, later moved to Fla, then got divorced, as we could not agree on too many things.

    3. No they sure didn't, but then I think they were real worried about proving to folks that it could work, which wasn't the point. Folks weren't too wild about the whole idea to begin with, and having stuff like that forced on a community isn't easily accepted anyway. Doesn't seem like that long ago really, but then time isn't always kind when bad decisions like that are made. >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [RockIsl'd] Watertown St Hosp - type of hospital? >Date: Sun, 21 Sep 2003 19:09:30 EDT > >It was in 79 the decision was made, and Feb 1, 1980 was the last day I had >worked at the state hospital, and it was then converted the next day, to >the >prision, they did not waste any time. > > >==== ILROCKIS Mailing List ==== >~*~*~*~ The Resources in the USGenWeb's Parade of States Awaits! ~*~*~*~ >-- Table of all States: http://www.usgenweb.org/statelinks-table.html > >============================== >To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, >go to: >http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > _________________________________________________________________ Instant message during games with MSN Messenger 6.0.
