    1. [ILROCKIS-L] Rock Island County ILGenWeb Page - I need...
    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. Hi everyone, I am revising some indexes on the Rock Island County ILGenWeb page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilrockis/index.html I would like for anyone who finds any information incorrect or links which don't work to please let me know. I have a volunteer who is trying to make the map clickable at the bottom of the index page but I know nothing about clickable maps and we may have to give it up as it keeps missing by a couple of counties....... I have watched some information come across on this maillist which I "stole" (in one case, I asked <g> Thanks, Anne) and put on the address page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilrockis/address.htm If you wish me to remove your name Larry or Bev, just holler. Thanks, George, for finding the jail phone number for the Rock Island Library. I told him I thought genealogists needed all the help they could get.<g> On the above address page, I would like any information you might have which the county, libraries, societies have as resources to put on the page. Not an extensive description but do get enough description to make worthwhile. For instance, if a newspaper microfilm is available at one of the addresses, give the name of the newpaper and the dates of the paper(s) on that film. If you are a source for an address and want your email address listed with the address, please let me know. Just a warning - if you do include your address, you possibly could get swamped with requests (most requests are nice, but some may be ugly). As a CC, I have received a few ugly including, "Send me all you have on my family, it is mine." I need: ALL subject Rock Island County publications (old and new(er)) For Sale and Not For Sale. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilrockis/books.htm Name of publication, compiler/author, date of pub, where published, and, if not for sale and you know where source is located, please include the address where it might be found to read. If for sale, besides the publication information, I need the source to buy the publication information - address, price, postage, etc. Ok, that's enough for a bit since "this dummie isn't going to get a pay raise." If I receive "gobs" of information on addresses and publications and you don't see it til next week, I am getting ready to go to a family reunion in Macoupin County this weekend so will be gone Oct 1-4 and may not get all up til next week. Thanks for any help. 3. I have been following your discussions with interest. My ancestors also came from Rock Island County -- mostly Port Byron. I am hoping to be able to pass through Rock Island county in a couple of weeks. Can you tell me where the Rock Island Co. Historical Library is located? Do you know the daily schedule? Would like to time my trip to take advantage of their hours, if at all possible. Janet Pease' newspaper abstracts (at least some of them) are on microfilm at LDS and can be ordered for use in the family history centers. I found lots of information in those abstracts. There are also copies of them at the Denver Public Library. Linda B.

Couldn't find a web link, just > PO Box. I notice they had done cemetery lists for Rock Island County. > Janet , Kansas City Well, I'm no expert but my husband's family is from Port Byron so I went there to do genealogy and found lots of great resources. Port Byron Library (in new building since I went researching) has microfilm of Port Byron Globe and neat historical things Rock Island County Historical Society library is GREAT! They have the microfilm of the Globe, plus other newspapers and card files on almost everybody. Cemetery lists. Easy to use. I was VERY impressed and we spent a whole day. Beautiful building too. Rock Island Public Library has a marvelous set of books that is an Index to extractions from all the RI County papers, plus many good maps. Plat maps showing ownership are helpful. Perhaps the BlackhawkGS collection is there. Rock Island County Courthouse (don't tell, but death certificates are a lot cheaper there than anywhere else I have had to get them). Land records, birth/marriage/death certs. Indexes to marriages are helpful. I found PB family quite easy to research. I never got in touh with Blackhawk GS either, but historical society is the cat's pyjamas. Anne Lamb Duvall, WA
