Hi Listers, Does anyone have access to an index on Declaration of Intent listings? I am looking for DUNKER, Charles, Henry, Christian or Frederick. Came to US and Ill. in 1852. I believe Charles got final papers in 1858, however, I want to get copies of theDeclaration of Intents as they have so much more info - final papers have almost nothing. Looking for ship, date etc on papers. If anyone can tell me where I can find an index, would appreciate it. Thanks Pat

List My thanks to all who responded to my question on which route would be taken by an immigrant to the United States i.e. New York and then overland to Illinois and Iowa or New Orleans and then up the Mississippi to Illinois and Iowa. My apologies for not including more information. My grandfather entered the United States in the 1880-1884 time period. As you know the railroad had progressed beyond Iowa at that time. Also the first bridge across the Mississippi River had been built by then (1856). With this said which route was the most likely for someone coming from Holland or Germany? Ellis Island was Castle Garden at the time. I had always assumed that it would be New York and then overland by rail but there are reasons for going the other way. Albert
--part1_4c.17c7a77.25d2ce99_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi List, I have only received one envelope so far from everyone that said they were going to send me money and a SASE. I do not believe if anyone were to mail me something today, I would be able to get it in time. I hesitate to make copies if I have not received your request. I have been "stung" before in this situation. If you want the book, I suggest you get it through interlibrary loan. This is what I will do: 1. I will respond to everyone via e-mail and let them know if I found anything for them. 2. If the information is short, I will e-mail it to you. 3. If the information is lengthy, I will ask you to send me 10 cents for each page and a SASE with sufficient postage. Please remember I must have this book back by February 11. I can not renew it. So I must have your money and SASE on or before February 11. If your information is lengthy, and you do not want to send me the SASE and money, you can order the book, like I did, through interlibrary loan. My copy came from Northern Illinois University.
