My apologies for not writing a note of thanks to all of you who contacted me as to questions about the HAEFELE family in Rock Island county. I was bombarded (physically and emotionally!)by visiting in-laws for almost 2 weeks and have had little time for anything but cooking, cleaning, and listening to family stories. Fun, but exhausting! I had quite a few people tell me about the cemeteries in Reynolds, and had a chance to only respond to a couple of you. My thanks to all of you for your information and offers to look up information. The Rock Island historical society sent a great packet of information that I have just today been able to look at more thoroughly. I was thrilled to discover some names that may solve some mysteries for me, and may be writing to ask for a couple lookups just to confirm what I am finding. In 3 weeks, I am off to visit my hometown in southern Indiana and also visit nearby Perry county IN- where my great grandfather Charles HAEFELE (William Haefele's brother) settled. I'm hoping by then I'll have enough information to be able to clear up some of the family mysteries. If anyone is interested in the information I have on William Haefele's siblings/families, please let me know. I would be glad to share what I have. Again, my thanks to all of you. I don't believe I have ever seen a group of people more willing to help - it makes my yearnings to move back to the midwest even stronger! Jane Yeager jjpedesk@earthlink.net
Hi I have rec'd an old copy of 1870 census record with my Dunker on them, however, the page is mostly unreadable. Page # is missing on copy. The dwelling # is 124 and family #120 - looks like the surname is Damcum/Damcan ? strictly not readable on this copy - given names are Chas., Mary, Mary, Anna and William and looks like a Pingle, Henry living with them but middle (occup, etc) not readable at all. I know this isn't much to go on. Oh yes the Inhabitants in ______is not readable, but Post Office of Port Bryan. I know I have asked for anyone with access to this before, but thought maybe with these numbers it could be found now even tho the surname is really off from Dunker. Thanks so much for trying. Pat
Hi Listers If anyone has access to an 1870 census I would sure appreciate a lookup for my family. I am researching the DUNKER family - they lived in several sections of the county. One a Charles DUNKER ( in one info I had name was DUNCAN in Pt. Byram or Bryan); the other given names of the brothers were Christian, Frederick and Henry. I looked in the US Census area and no luck for 1870 census info. Pat

I don't know if this would help you, but in the Griffith Valuation of Ireland ( abt or before 1850) Marmaduke Abbott lived on Templemore Rd in the town of Cloughjordan in the parish of Modreeny in County Tipperary. Aren't you lucky to have such a distinctive name to search? ;) Anne Lamb
Thank you all who answered my query about Marmaduke ABBOTT. If you run across him in your search please let me know. Bev in Houston
Hi Jan, For a couple of years I have been trying to find out about the death of my Great Grandfather, Marmaduke Abbott, who came to Illinois from Tipperary, Ireland in the 1850s, lived in Coal Valley, Rock Island County, Ill. and died around 1870--1880. The rest of his family ended up in Davenport, Scott Cty. Ia. but He was not with them there. If you happen to come across my Marmaduke I would sure be elated. Bev Hannigan, Houston, Tx.
I am searching for death dates on two of my Belgian lines. Valentine Van Eckhoutte D. 1968 and his wife, Alida (VandeWalle) D. 1956 They are buired in St. Mary's Cemetery Need the dates to be able to get an obituary - might help me go back on that family. Also: Henrie and Elodie DeBlaere - believe buried at St. John's Cemetery, Rapids City. I need their death dates, as well. They are related to my Grandmother, Emma DeBlaere, somehow. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Ginny in Florida
In response to a few inquiries that have come in lately about burials in Rock Island Co cemeteries, I have records of many of the cemeteries in lower county and will do look ups for anyone that is interested. What I have are: Reynolds cemetery in Reynolds, IL Andalusia cemetery in Andalusia, IL Dunlap Cemetery near Edgington, IL Chapel Grove Cemetery (Bowling Twp) south of Milan and east of Taylor Ridge Illinois City cemetery at Illinois City, IL Sortore Cemetery near Edgington (abandoned) The above listed cemeteries are complete. They were obtained from the cemetery sextons. I have the list for Edgington cemetery in Edgington, IL but am not sure that is complete and up to date. I also have the lists for these as found in Dwight E Mohlenbruck's Death Index 1800 through 1992: Drury Reynolds Cemetery Buffalo Prairie Cemetery Essex Drugg Mills Memorial Gardens, Muscatine, IA Greenwood, Muscatine, IA Zion Lutheran Leech Hamlet Cable Biggsville Pacific Ocean -- off Midway Island Monmouth Memorial Park, Muscatine, IA Eliza Creek Pleasant Hill, Lone Springs, IA Remer And I have the Carr Cemetery in Rock Island, but will have to look for that one as it is not with my others. This may take a few days. Maybe this will help some of you. Sincerely, Jan Dunlap, Milan, IL
I would like to thank all of you who have sent me emails about the Cemetary for help. My roots are in Scott County, Iowa. I have lived in Rock Island County for 14 years. I joined this list so that I might help someone sometime. My request for help with the cemetary in Andalusia was because I know it is so very small and the pop. of Andalusia is small. They do have a postoffice but do not deliver mail even. I was not sure where to begin. So I called the elem school - she gave me another number to call and then to Mr. Neece. I have the IASCOTT-L and you guys are just as nice. I live in Taylor Ridge but I am just up the road 3 miles from the Cemetary. I don't have time to do look ups will be glad always to make phone calls etc from this area when needed. Thank you again for the very nice and helpful emails to get me going. One suggestion was I go to the cemetary and take pictures of the head stones. I will do that if you like. I made some phone calls this morning. Here is what I have found out about Andalusia Cemetary: It is a Vol Cemetary. Mr. Gerald Neece took over the responsibility of the Cemetary in 1978. At that time there were no records at all. The Blackhawk Society helped and now they have around 1,000 names. I spoke to Mr. Neece on the phone this morning and he was very nice. The records he has are in his basement. The Hayes that he has record for are: Kenneth James Charles Hayes - Died at 89 years 3 months and 18 days - 10 Sept. 1948 - Block 23 - Lot 6 Alex (note not Alexander) Hayes - No Dates - Sgt. Co C. 2nd Iowa Infantry. Sorry, I couldn't help any more. No record of Livinia or Rebbecca - I have Mr. Neeces phone number if you need it. Hello all, Does anyone have the names of the individuals buried at the Weiss Family Farm Cemetery in south Rural Township. Any help greatly appreciated. Nomie
Can anyone tell me where to get hold of the listings of the Edwards Cemetery? I am interested in looking at ANY of the names there in general as well as hoping to possibly see a burial for my gg grandfather, Pierce B. BISSELL. So, I would like to actually see a listing of ALL burials, not just querry for a name or two, though I would like to know if Pierce B. Bissell, or any Bissell was possibly buried there. Luther EDWARDS, part of the original clan who came from Halifax, VT, was a next door neighbor to a Jonathan Marsh Bissell in 1820 Halifax. Luther's family and extended family were supposedly buried in Edwards cemetery in Rock Island Co, Illinois. We are currently suspecting that Pierce B. Bissell, born about 1816-20, may have been related in some way to Jonathan Marsh Bissell through one of the men in the family who haven't been traced...making Pierce a nephew or great nephew perhaps. Interestingly, next door on the other side to Jonathan Marsh Bissell in Halifax was a Jared Pierce. There is a William PIERCE/PEARCE who appears in early 'Rock Island records, buying land the same day as our Pierce Bissell...in the same close area in Rock Island Co. If he is the same one who appears in the 1850 census, he was born in Mass about the same time Pierce Bissell was born, location unknown. It's possible that William Pearce was related to Jared Pierce. Jonathan Marsh Bissell and the Edwards all came to VT from Mass and moved on west...many of them or subsequent generations going first to Jefferson Co, NY and on to Illinois , probably with stopovers in Michigan or Ohio. I am also interested in ANY Rock Island early settlers who had roots in VT or MASS. connections to try to see if any lived nearby any Bissell families who might be candidates for Pierce B. Bissell's parentage. Thanks for reading this....Julie Bissell Tupker
