    1. [ILRANDOL] Lookup Request - Preston Cemetery
    2. Does anybody know of an index of burials in Preston Cemetery? I'm looking for my great great grandfathr, William Moore, who was born 1812 in County Monagham, Ireland and died in 1844 in Randolph County, IL His widow, Margaret Dunn, married the widower Samuel Boyd in 1845; he died in 1888 and is buried in Old Bethel Cemetery, Sparta, IL. But Margaret is said to be buried in Preston Cemetery, where she had been a member of the Old Presbyterian Church. I'm wondering if she chose to be buried alongside her first husband, whose exact date of death I don't know. (Interestingly, the list I have of persons buried in Old Bethel Cemetery doesn't seem to include the first wife of Samuel Boyd, either. Her name was Jemima Baird., and there are Baird's buried in Old Bethel, but not Jemima.)

    3. The complete(?) list of 116 interments at Preston Cemetery can be found at findagrave.com. The direct link to Preston Cemetery is: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=107571&CScn=Presto n&CScntry=4&CSst=16& No luck in finding William Moore in any of the Randolph County cemeteries present in the findagrave database. There are several Boyd's buried at Preston, but no Margaret Moore, Margaret Dunn, or Margaret Boyd. There is however a Sarah Jane Boyd Moore (1838-1863). Jemima Baird Boyd (1820-1844) is buried at Preston Cemetery. There is a notation in her record: "Jemima was the first wife (I believe) of Samuel BOYD (b:1819 d:1875) (Samuel married 3 times.)" There is no headstone picture; I don't know if this signifies the lack of a headstone or just that a picture was not taken. I also looked at the Old Bethel Cemetery entries and found a Margaret N. Boyd (1827-1850). There is also a picture of her headstone. Is this the person you are researching? The dates looks right. There is also a Samuel M. Boyd buried at Old Bethel who died in 1888, but this is not your Samuel Boyd as the grave marker lists a date of birth of 1867. No other Samuel Boyd is listed at Old Bethel. Researching all the Samuel Boyds of Randolph County I found two others. 1) Samuel Boyd (10 April 1810 - 26 Feb 1875) is buried at Preston Cemetery 2) Samuel Lyons Boyd (8 Sep 1817 - 5 Mar 1877) is buried at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta. The first one is the one to whom you are related as his record states: Samuel was the son of Elizabeth VERNOR and William BOYD. Samuel was married 2 times. Wives names include... Jemima BAIRD b: abt 1820 d: 1844), Margaret DUNN (b: 1814 d: 1894) married on 23 Sept 1845. There is a picture of his tombstone Hope this helps you. I've found the findagrave.com site to be an excellent source in my research.
