    1. [ILRANDOL] SMOCK, Madison b. 1836 AR.
    2. Madison's full name was Martin Madison SMOCK. Though born in 1836 AR he lived his adult life in IL (mostly Hardin Co., IL). Madison doesn't seem to have any parents. I have found three SMOCK entries in the USC 1830 AR, but none in USC 1840. The three SMOCKs were Barnet, Alfred, and Casper. Barnet is Barney SMOCK who returned to Hardin Co., IL by USC 1840 as did Alfred SMOCK. Casper is unaccounted for in or after 1840. Madison would be age 4 in 1840 and is not accounted for in Barney's or Alfred's families in USC 1840. Barney and Alfred had an older brother, Hiram (b. 1800), who remained in IL with their widowed mother, Sarah SMOCK. He is listed in her household in 1830 and she in his household in 1840. It is believed that it was the same location/house in Cave in Rock, IL. In USC 1840 Hardin Co., IL Hiram's household included Lydia 26, his wife; Sarah 68, his mother; a female 10-15, probably Matilda; 2 males <5 and 2 males 5-10. Madison, then 4, could be one of these males since only one, John 2, is subsequently (USC 1850) identified. Since Hiram married Lydia Hughs in 1737 and in 1840 they had 2 males 5-10 and 2 males <5, either Hiram or Lydia brought children into the marriage or some of these could be orphan children of other families which were housed by Hiram's family. If one of the males is Madison SMOCK 4, then he does not show as a male 14 in 1850 in Hiram's household or else where to my knowledge. Madison SMOCK m. 4 Aug 1856 Vina/Lavina HOLLOMAN in IL Madison served in CW with Co. C, 48th IL Infantry (1861-1865) Madison survived the death (1898) of Vina, his wife, and died in 1925 in IL The questions are: 1) the parentage of Madison SMOCK. Who were they? 2) where was he born? in AR?, in IL? 3) where was he in 1850 at age 14? Best regards, Hugh
