    3. Dear list members, Last night I read something on the PAWESTMO list that was really exciting so I sent to message to all of the mailing lists I am on before I went to the site. After going to the, now, BCIS site I am forced to write this message. The address for the INS, now Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS), web site is http://www.immigration.gov/graphics/index.htm I went to the site after I had mailed my "discovery". There is a very large *caveat. This site provides immigration information under the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA). Upon going to that part of the BCIS site I printed out the 4 page application. Two of those pages were instructions. At the top left of the first page of instructions it is written: Are There Cases When You Do Not Use This Form? Do not use this form: (1) To determine status of pending applications, write to the office where the appellation was filed or call the nearest INS office; (2) For Consular notification of visa petition approval, use Form I-824 (Application for Action on an Approved Application or Petition); (3) For the return of original documents, use Form G-884 (Request for Return of Original Documents); *(4) For records of naturalization prior to September 27, 1906, write to the clerk of the court where naturalization occurred; or *(5) For information on INS arrivals prior to December 1982, Write to the National Archives. You have to be in a very special category to be able to get naturalization records from the INS! Dorothy J. Schendel [email protected]
