    3. Are you sure this was in Randolph County? Many Shields live in Jackson County yet today. In the 1870 census, I found William Shields, MD living with many other people in Sparta, IL. I also found Emily & Thomas Shields living with the Clany family in Sparta, IL. Thomas was only 5 yrs. old. No Shield/Shields is listed in the 1880 census. He was the son of Herman Lampe & Caroline Hoeninghouse. He was first married to Minnie Michael who died in 1920 and then he married Sophia Feldman who died in 1957 in Chester. He had two daughters, Mildred and Ruth. I believe he was living with Mildred at the time of his death. Mildred's married name was Guetersloh (later Haak) and Ruth's married name was Voss and she was living in Belleville at the time of her father's death. Any help in locating Edward's descendants would most appreciated. Gwen Hobbs
