Lafayette was located in the northwest corner of section 8, township 4, and range 7. It was on the left bank of the kaskaskia River, ten miles north of Evansville, Illinois. Grain, lumber and flour milled at Red Bud were shipped from Lafayette. It had a general store, a sawmill and a dry goods store. It is extinct. I found a marriage record for WILLIAM MANTESH (McINTOSH) and BAPHALA SMITH on 14 Nov 1811 in Randolph County. They removed and was in Union County 1818 census and the 1820 and 1830 Alexander County census. WILLIAM and NICHOLAS SMITH and JAMES MURPHY were living next door to them. I am trying to find information on the SMITH family. Any information would greatly be appreciated. Thank You, MARIANNE DILLOW mdillow31@verizon.net
