    1. [ILRANDOL] Alfred G WRIGHT-Obituary
    2. Charmaine Andresen
    3. Recieved this yesterday from a wonderful lady in Crawford, I am posting this here as it pertains to some Ex Randolph families. Sorry I didnt get the name of news paper concerned yet,I would think it was the 1910 local Girard one. WRIGHT- In Crawford township, Feb 8th, 1910, of heart trouble. Alfred G Wright, aged 41 years and 11 months. Death was very sudden. He had been working for Wm.HOLLAND, on the old fair grounds, this winter, and Tuesday was not feeling well and walked to Girard in the afternoon to get some medicine, returning home and helping to do the feeding in the evening, later eating supper. He went to bed about 9 o'clock, and about fifteen minutes later got up, saying he could not get his breath. He died in Mr Hollands arms within a few minutes. Mr Wright was reared by Mr and Mrs John ANDREW, his mother dying when he was two years old. He accompanied the Andrew family to this county in 1886, and has been with them most of the time since. He was a bachelor. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the home of John Andrew, one mile west of the cemetery, Rev. A.H.Morrison officiating. He was a member of Girard Lodge No 55, I.O.O.F. Sadly, Alfred never married so theres no family to trace for him but at least he has been 'found'. There are still two elusive brothers to be found in the 1900's. Many thanks for help received from this mail list. 3. Hello Shirley, Do you have any connection with Francis F. Diehl who married Martha H. "Mattie" Hixon? He would have been born about 1853 in Ohio and worked as a broom maker early in life in Tama, Iowa and later as a clerk in a news stand that was owned by his father-in-law Philander Hixon in 1920. Any connection here? Judy L. On May 3, 2007, at 8:18 AM, Shirley Warden wrote: > Requesting info on the below & their descendants. > > Johann Theobald REIFEL 1807-1852 m. 1. [ILRANDOL] Which James Brown and son who died during the Civil War?
    2. Nancy T
    3. We are looking for a James Brown, father of W. A. [William Alexander Brown ] later living in Wisconsin and Nebraska], who perished during the Civil War. W. A. stated that he lost his father and brother in the war. Our James Brown and wife Mary Eliza Chambers claimed to have come from South Carolina. We do not know the names of any of their children other than William Alexander. In checking Illinois archives Civil War soldiers for Randolph and Perry Counties for James Brown, shows only one gent who is old enough to have a 20 year old son; this being James Brown, a married farmer age 43 [so born about 1819], residing at Steels Mills, Randolph County, when enlisting July 28, 1862. He was the wagoner for Company A 80th Illinois Infantry. He died of disease Feb. 2, 1863 at Murfreesboro, TN. W. A. Brown stated in his pension application that he was born March 30, 1841, in Perry County, Illinois. Further, he enclosed an affidavit from Lindsay Steele [A bit of sleuthing shows Lindsay Steele was the son of Archibald and Elizabeth Steele of Steeles Mills], in which Mr. Steele writes: "I was well acquainted with said solider [W. A. Brown] both before, during, and after the war. Lived a few miles of each other in Randolph county..." There was also an affidavit from John Wilson, dated 1880, in which he states " That I am personally acquainted with the above named Wm. Alexander Brown and that my acquaintance extends back to his boyhood some years before he enter the U. S. service. Perhaps there is information in the Randolph County book about Illinois Veterans that might help unravel this mystery. Additional information about these Browns http://www.geocities.com/drnancytodd/wabrown/wabrown.html Many thanks for any help. 3. On www.findagrave.com you put in your relatives, or anybody you know for certain is buried there with the dates, and if you want a short biography. It doesn't cost anything, just register. Very few cemeteries on there list everybody in them, but with everybody contributing what they know one day they will hopefully be complete. You can also add photos of the cemetery, grave, or the person buried there. If you put on someone add as much information such as complete birth and death dates as you can, and a short bio telling who parents were, etc. or an obituary if you have one because nobody else can add info on a person once you have entered them unless they add them a second time.
