Velda, No hurry... To answer your question, I have gotten information (especially on the early French families) from Bova's translation of the Kaskaskia Catholic records at the public library in Waterloo. The more recent families migrated from Ruma to Red Bud to Waterloo in period around the beginning of the 20th century. - Doug -----Original Message----- From: ilrandol-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ilrandol-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Velda Moore Sent: Saturday, August 18, 2007 10:11 PM To: ilrandol@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ILRANDOL] GREAT COPIES of family. Hello Velda, First, let me say that I'm willing to pay for as many Brown and Chambers records I can get. It's a bargain considering what it would cost me for an airline ticket from Washington state to Illinois, car rental, and hotel room for several days for me to go to your area to inspect records myself. I'd be willing to sort through the various Brown records to determine family connections and post to the internet. Over the years so many folks have helped me, so I'd be very willing to share information in return. Perhaps I could sort out the various Brown families. Nancy Todd Cheney, WA Regarding CHAMBERS W. A. (William Alexander) Brown of Sparta,Illinois, according to his 1868 marriage record in Neshonoc, WI, was born in Perry county, the son of James Brown and Mary Eliza CHAMBERS. Could be just Mary or Eliza or Elizabeth, or one older relative thought the mother might be Martha. W. A. Brown's death certificate gives his parents names as James Brown, b. Carolina and Eliza Chambers, b. Carolina. We find our William Brown (age 17) in the 1860 Randolph county census in the household of David (age 32) and Martha (age 27) Chambers. So DAVID CHAMBERS could be a cousin or uncle. So if there are 5 pages of CHAMBERS, then I would like all 5 because, if it does show any of our CHAMBERS names, then the next question of course would be, who are the parents? Regarding BROWN These are POSSIBLE, I emphasize possible, first names: James, William, Joseph, Henry, Alexander Plus any other BROWN in Perry and Randolph counties that may have died during the Civil War. W. A. Brown [William Alexander) is mentioned in Mcdonald's history of the 30th Illinois regiment. Also in that regimental history is mention of a James M. Brown. This James was the unit's Wagoner and died during the war. We are wondering if he could have been the father. After the war W. A. Brown went first to Wisconsin, then to Murray (Cass county) Nebraska. See http://home.comcast.net/~30il/mcdonald.html W. A. Brown finally settled in Murray, Cass County, Nebraska. There was an entry in the Murray Centennial book written by his granddaughter. It states in part: "When the Civil War began, William Alexander Brown, his brother and his father joined the army. Father and brother were killed and he [W. A.] was injured, which resulted in his later loss of sight. ... William Alexander Brown, born March 30, 1844, Perry County, Illinois ... His children were Alice May Brown, James Henry Brown, Luella Brown and William Chambers Brown." QUESTION: Who might have been the Brown brother? W. A. Brown stated in his pension application that he was born March 30, 1841, in Perry County, Illinois. Further, he enclosed an affidavit from Lindsay Steele [A bit of sleuthing shows Lindsay Steele was the son of Archibald and Elizabeth Steele of Steeles Mills], in which Mr. Steele writes: "I was well acquainted with said solider [W. A. Brown] both before, during, and after the war. Lived a few miles of each other in Randolph county." There was also an affidavit from John Wilson, dated 1880, in which he states " That I am personally acquainted with the above named Wm. Alexander Brown and that my acquaintance extends back to his boyhood some years before he enter the U. S. service. I mentioned above about the 1860 census about William Brown living with David Chambers. In the 1860 or 1850 census I cannot come up with a James Brown and a Mary, Eliza, Elizabeth, or Martha Brown. Perhaps she died sometime after giving birth to W. A. and the father re-married? The closes that seems reasonable is this 1850 entry with Joseph as the head of the household. Note 2 sons William Perhaps this fellow was Joseph James or James Joseph Brown. Name: William A Brown Age: 8 Estimated birth year: abt 1842 Birth Place: Ill Gender: Male Home in 1850: Township 5 S R 6 W, Randolph, Illinois Joseph 53 SC Eliza 39 SC Catherine 19 KY Joseph 17 IL Elvira Ann 14 William M 19 Henry B 17 James 11 William A 8 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ --- Velda Moore <Vel_Chick@verizon.net> wrote: > It looks like 5 different pages of CHAMBERS info.
