It was not uncommon for parents to name a living child the same name as one whom died. Especially if it was a name sake of someone in the family. ----- Original Message ----- From: "donald drury" <ddrury5840@sbcglobal.net> To: <ilrandol-l@rootsweb.com>; <kynelson-l@rootsweb.com>; <kywashin-l@rootsweb.com>; <mdstmary-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 15, 2007 5:29 PM Subject: [ILRANDOL] Charles P. Check out the Prairie du Rocher Catholic Church records. There are many Brewer records including Pius Brewer. Velda Wittenbrink Moore vel_chick@verizon.net http://www.larrett.com/velda/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilrcgs/
Dear Folks, I am trying to find the parents and birth date of the Charles P. Brewer who married Elena Dolson (or Dotson) d/o Stephen Dolson and Elizabeth Creely on 10/19/1844. (Marriage Records - Randolph County Illinois 1809-1870 by Mrs. Frank Torrens p. 13). Researchers in the area report that Mrs. Torrens copied these records directly from the original documents in the Randolph County Courthouse in Chester, Illinois. Charles and Elena had at least one son, Richard Hayes Brewer born in 1847. These additional marriages are recorded on that same page; Brewer, George T. Signer, Lucinda 4-28-1846 Brewer, John W. Longway, Mary 9-20-1847 (date of license) Brewer, Wm Horne, Elizabeth 2-19-1848 Brewer, Pious Signer, Cordelia M. 2-24-1850 Some of you have placed a Charles Brewer as marrying Margaret Ellen Wimsatt 5/7/1844 with several children born between 1845 and 1852 after which she supposedly dies in 1853. Other sites list him as Charles P. Brewer. My confusion concerns the middle name of Charles Brewer and who he married. It is possible, of course, that these were different individuals, or that Pius Brewer had more than one son he named Charles. Erica Cooper and William Mattingly in their files on Ancestry upated in 2004 list him as Charles Leo Brewer born in 1818. Jerry Wimsatt in his database has him as Charles Brewer born abt 1812. Another Ancestry entry has Charles P. Brewer s/o Pius Brewer and Tabitha Blanford born abt 1812, Nelson County, Ky. married to Margaret Ellen Wimsatt 5/7/1844. So we have 3 Charles Brewers listed as a s/o Pius Brewer and Tabitha Blanford in various databases and a fourth who is a possible son: 1. Charles P.Brewer b. ? m. Elena Dolson 10/19/1844 (perhaps a son of Pius and Tabitha) 2. Charles P. Brewer b. 1812 m. Margaret Ellen Wimsatt 5/7/1844 3. Charles Brewer b.abt 1812 m. Margaret Ellen Wimsatt 5/7/1844 4. Charles Leo Brewer b. 1818 m. Margaret Ellen Wimsatt 5/7/1844 Does anyone have any additional information to help clear this confusion? Thanks very much for your attention and any help you can provide. Don Drury
Does anyone know if the Felix Blanford who married Amanda Ellen Gough 26 Jan 1851 is the same as the Felix Blanford (b. 1826) s/o Francis Blanford and Sarah______ who had a son John Walter Blanford by an unknown wife? Any help and comment appreciated. Thanks in advance, Don Drury
Dear folks, Does anyone have any birth, marriage, or death dates for Charles Brewer s/o Pius Brewer and Tabitha Blanford? I have the Marriage of Pius and Tabitha as 23 Sep. 1809. They were reported to be in Randolph County Illinois by 1830. Children of Pius Brewer from "Maryland Catholics on the Frontier" by Tim O'Rourke P. 617 as reported to me by Tom or Donna <tacii@olg.com> in 1999 are Maria and Charles. I have a Charles P. Brewer who married Elena Dolson in Perry County Missouri 19 Oct 1844 and died about 1865. I wonder if this Charles and Charles (s/o Pius) are the same person? Could the "P" stand for Pius (named for his father)? All information or comment welcome. Don Drury
That's a possibility. My William Moore was born in 1812 and it is said he died in 1844. (He arrived from Ireland in 1841 in Randolph County.) I don't know his middle name or initial. That's very interesting --- Union Cemetery Sparta, and not Preston Cemetery. It seems my mother's record may be wrong, and Margaret Boyd (widow to both William MOORE and Samuel BOYD) is bureid at Union Cemetery. The complete(?) list of 116 interments at Preston Cemetery can be found at findagrave.com. The direct link to Preston Cemetery is: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=107571&CScn=Presto n&CScntry=4&CSst=16& No luck in finding William Moore in any of the Randolph County cemeteries present in the findagrave database. There are several Boyd's buried at Preston, but no Margaret Moore, Margaret Dunn, or Margaret Boyd. There is however a Sarah Jane Boyd Moore (1838-1863). Jemima Baird Boyd (1820-1844) is buried at Preston Cemetery. There is a notation in her record: "Jemima was the first wife (I believe) of Samuel BOYD (b:1819 d:1875) (Samuel married 3 times.)" There is no headstone picture; I don't know if this signifies the lack of a headstone or just that a picture was not taken. I also looked at the Old Bethel Cemetery entries and found a Margaret N. Boyd (1827-1850). There is also a picture of her headstone. Is this the person you are researching? The dates looks right. There is also a Samuel M. Boyd buried at Old Bethel who died in 1888, but this is not your Samuel Boyd as the grave marker lists a date of birth of 1867. No other Samuel Boyd is listed at Old Bethel. Researching all the Samuel Boyds of Randolph County I found two others. 1) Samuel Boyd (10 April 1810 - 26 Feb 1875) is buried at Preston Cemetery 2) Samuel Lyons Boyd (8 Sep 1817 - 5 Mar 1877) is buried at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta. The first one is the one to whom you are related as his record states: Samuel was the son of Elizabeth VERNOR and William BOYD. Samuel was married 2 times. Wives names include... Jemima BAIRD b: abt 1820 d: 1844), Margaret DUNN (b: 1814 d: 1894) married on 23 Sept 1845. There is a picture of his tombstone Hope this helps you. I've found the findagrave.com site to be an excellent source in my research. Does anybody know of an index of burials in Preston Cemetery? I'm looking for my great great grandfather, William Moore, who was born in 1812 in County Monagham, Ireland and died in 1844 in Randolph County, IL. His widow, Margaret Dunn on 23 Sep 1845 became the second wife of Samuel Boyd, who died in 1888 and is buried in Old Bethel Cemetery, Sparta, IL. But Margaret Dunn is buried in Preston Cemetery; she had been a member of the Old Presbyterian Church in Preston. I'm wondering if an index might show a grave for William Moore. (Interestingly, Samuel Boyd's first wife, Jemima Baird, who died in 1844, also is not buried in Old Bethel Cemetery.) Dave Hudelson

I have finished typing the baptismal, confirmation, marriage, and death records for PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH in CHESTER, IL. This is 100 years of records. If you want a copy, SEND YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS to RCGS@egyptian.net IN AN E-MAIL. NO, I DON'T YET KNOW THE PRICE, but RCGS will send you an e-mail to tell you how much it is so that you can send the money before they mail the book to you. It will be a resonable price, I can assure you. TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES PLEASE. This will help us and them too. Please, don't copy information in the books that we make and GIVE it to your friends and relatives. This is a great deal of work that we do. We make the books to support RCGS. Help us out, please!
