    2. Jerry South
    3. At one time in the 1930's, my greatgrandmother made a claim for some indian settlement funds. She had to prove at least 1/16th native american ancestry to qualify. Does anyone know anything about this act and if any records are availabe from it. I think it would be an excellent resource --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 2. TeriSue Bru
    3. I spent a wonderful 1/2 hour today with my Chester Juergens relative. Wilma Kothe is on a bus trip through New England. She said she would be in NH today and I told her I would be wherever the bus was stopping. By the time I got there the whole bus knew OUR story, and there turned out to be a Larison cousin and another Juergens aboard. Well y'all told me it was a small town. It was fun going through the photo albums I brought. Wilma could put names to the pictures of people I didn't know. AND, she looks like my mom !! Now Janice Cooner,Wilma Kothe and me, TeriSue Bru are Juergens cousins and working on the family together !! Great fun!! 1. [ILRANDOL] Looking for Moses FRAY
    2. I am sending this note to both the Perry and Randolph County lists in the hopes that someone can shed some light on the many wives of one Moses J. FRAY (sometimes spelled FREY) who was born about 1832. My connection to Moses is through my 2nd Great Grand Aunt, Martha SOPER who appears to have been his second wife. Moses married Martha C.Soper on Aug. 24, 1858 in Randolph Co. It appears that his first wife, Elizabeth F. died on Dec 25, 1857 and is buried in Gillespie Prairie Cemetery. Have not located a marriage record to Elizabeth, but based on the 1880 census record they had one daughter named Gemima that was born about 1854. The marriage to Martha apparently did not last long as there is another marriage record for Moses J. FRAY to Martha C. BARNS on Aug. 28, 1860, again in Randolph Co. Yet another marriage record appears for Moses C. and Mrs. Nancy K. LIVELY in Perry County on Sept. 11, 1876. Then finally, what appears to be as his last marriage to Edith BROWN on July 21, 1881 in neighboring Franklin County. Apparently, he had built up quite a reputation and the women of Perry and Randolph County would not marry him. So far, the only census record I have found that shows Moses Fray is the 1880 census for Du Quoin, Perry County. It appears that Nancy was history by then as he was living with his daughter Gemima STEEL, 25; son-in-law Cortice STEEL, 25; and sons Thomas J. FRAY, 18; John H. FRAY, 12; and James C. FRAY, 6. Moses does not appear on the 1860 census for Perry, Randolph, or Jackson Counties. Not sure about the 1870 census. Do any of the above names ring a bell with anyone? I am of the opinion that all of the above marriages are for the same Moses Fray, since only one appears on the census records. Thanks, Ken Soper Apple Valley, CA [email protected]

    1. [ILRANDOL] Church Records of Randolph County
    2. Velda Moore
    3. June Hohgrefe James of Chester has done the church records (births, marriages, death, baptisms, etc.) from St. John Lutheran, Chester; St. Mark's Steeleville; St. Johannes Parish BREMEN; Zion Lutheran WALSH; and all of the information about their cost is on David McKelvey's Randolph County web site. Go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilrandol/ And Randolph County Genealogy Society is in beautiful blue. You can't miss it. Under this, it says "RANDOLPH COUNTY BOOKS FOR SALE". Click on that and you will get all the information about ordering any of these books. It even gives the price, the address to write to, and how many pages are in the book (maybe). I have been giving out this information whenever it is possible, but for me to type this info for each person who asks, is a BIG task. This is how Randolph County Genealogical Society funds itself, by helping you find the information you need. You need to thank Midge Dobyns who comes to Chester every Monday AND Tuesday all the way from Ava, IL to run the copying machine. She runs it all day long making books and copies of documents for YOU. It is a hard job, but she can do the work of three people. I am very proud of her for the amount and quality of work she does. Virginia Mansker is doing the 1910 census which is a huge task. June James is sorting documents and helping Virginia do the census (this will be in three books because it is so large.) The main thing I am trying to tell you is to go to the http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilrandol/ site to learn how to order books from us. You will be amazed at what else you can find out. ALSO BOOKMARK THE SITE so that you can go back often! Velda Wittenbrink Moore
