    1. [ILRANDOL] Gray & Ford
    2. I'm curious if anyone is researching these people and can untangle the relationship found in the 1880 Census for Randolph County: In Sparta, page 555B the following is found THOMAS GRAY, age 45, born Illinois (parents birthplace blank), brick mason VIRGINIA M. GRAY, age 38, born Illinois, father born PA, mother born KY Children: William age 17, Flora age 14, Ida, age 12, Lenna age 9, Hattie age 7, Mary age 5, Mabel age 2, Terry age 4 months, all born Illinois FRANCIS (sic) McCORMACK "mother" age 74 born KY JUDITH FORD, "Aunt" age 70, born KY I have located a record for Thomas Gray & Virginia McCormack, married Aug 30, 1860 in Jackson County Illinois. The question here is the relationship between Judith Ford and the GRAY/McCORMACK family. Judith was apparently married 4 times (husbands names were ? Varner, Justus Rockwell, Benjamin Ford and Abram Clore). Her maiden name is unknown. Thanks for any help. Mary Park

    1. [ILRANDOL] RCGS RESEARCH & PAYMENT
    2. Velda Moore
    3. Dear Randolph County Genealogists, RCGS has been very generous in sending out information without asking for payment, so that you can get the info as quickly as possible. This is putting us in a spot according to the President, Virginia Mansker. Not all of you are sending in your check quickly and we need to money so that we can pay postage for more packages of information to be mailed. We have been copying probates and sending them without getting money up front also. We have decided that this must stop if payment for our services are not paid promptly. It is easier for us if we go ahead and send it as soon as we copy it without asking for payment first, but we have to have operating money too. PLEASE, send your money right now if you owe it. If possible, send the money to RCGS instead of the courthouse, so that we can cash the check ourselves. WE do the research if you send it to the Circuit Clerk or County Clerk if it pertains to genealogy, so SEND THE CHECK TO RANDOLPH COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY or just RCGS at 600 State Street, Suite 306, Chester, IL 62233. Our phone number is 618-826-3807. RCGS only charges $7.00 per hour for research & copying. Believe me it is worth that much! Copying probates is a boring job and I must stand while doing it. You will get more for your money if you use the RESEARCH SHEET on the Randolph County site of David McKelvey. Look at it and you will understand what I mean. Thank you very much for your cooperation. I will be glad to answer any question you might have on the above. Velda Wittenbrink Moore RCGS Volunteer

She was one of the children listed. Her name was Mrs. Chester Bradshaw of Illinois. There was also a son listed as John Cullen. They were the children of John and Mary Roche Cullen, who left Illinois and went to California around 1900. All the other siblings were living in California at the time of their father's death. I have records of the family in Randolph County. I would like to find the first name of Mrs. Chester Bradshaw and, hopefully, locate some of her descendants. I have many records and different information to share with the family. I also want to locate information on the son, John Cullen. I know of no other children, besides me, that are descendants of John and Mary Cullen, the parents of Mrs. Chester Bradshaw and John Cullen. Thanks so very much, Rayene Sperbeck in San Diego, CA

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/og.2ADI/19.1.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Carol, I stumbled across your message and am very interested in your Snow research! My dad and I have been compiling information on the descendants of our ancestor Richard Snow of Woburn Massachusetts for several years. In pursuing descendants of Richard I happened to find the following in the 1850 Census for Hampton, Windham, Connecticut: William Snow, 41, M, carriage maker, born Connecticut; Sally A. Snow, 43, F, born Connecticut; Henry C. Snow, 19, M, laborer, born Connecticut; Edwin W. Snow 17, M, laborer, born Connecticut; Andrew D. Snow 16, M, laborer, born Connecticut, attended school; Maria S. Snow, 13, F, born Connecticut, attended school; Julia A. Snow, 11, F, born Connecticut, attended school; Isabel M. Snow, 3/12, F, born Connecticut. Living next door to this family were Wm Snow, 66, M, wagon maker, born Connecticut; Mercy Snow, 63, F, born Connecticut; Geo. C. Snow, 25, M, painter, born Connecticut. I think that the Wm Snow, wagon maker, age 66, is the son of William Snow and Mary Johnson who was born 12 Jul 1784 in Ashford, Windham, Connecticut. I presume that the William aged 41 who lives next door is his son. Can you confirm this? I am most excited to find that you have been to Hartland, England and have done some research on the Snows there. The reason my Dad and I started compiling all these Richard Snow descendants was because we hoped it would lead us back to finding where Richard Snow came from in England. We made an index to the Barnstaple and Hartland Parish Registers hoping that it would help us figure things out. I still think that I am missing a few pieces to the puzzle. I'm anxious to learn what you might have on the Snows in Hartland. I have the information on how we are related to Lorenzo and Eliza Snow of the LDS church. Linda Snow Westover

Here is my deadend for the month. Any help will be appreciated! I am trying to learn more about the Gaston family in Randolph County. History states that Alexander Gaston was in the county by 1815, and he had a son named Alexander. The 1810 Census shows a J. Gastion, and the 1820 Census shows households for James, Margaretta, Stephen, and William Gaston. My search for information is based on my need to learn the parents of Peggy (Gaston) Pillars, Ann (Gaston) Hindman, and Mary (Gaston) Crain, three sisters who after some time in Kentucky were mothers in three early Randolph County families. One researcher indicated that they were the daughters of Samuel and Nancy (Crawford) Gaston, but I find no record to help prove this. Instead, I am wondering if they are the youngest daughters of James and Margaret (Harvey) Gaston--the James of the 1820 Census. James Gaston was born in 1740 to John and Esther (Waugh) Gaston, and died in 1840 in Randolph County. James had at least two children, Robert (1776-1817) and Stephen (1774-1837). Does anyone know the rest of his children's names? Or any more information about this Gaston family? Another clue that leads me in this direction is that the three Gaston sisters had sons whom they named James Harvey. All the Gastons in Illinois (there are Gastons in Marion County, Bond County, and Jefferson County at the same time) seem to descend from the same Irish South Carolina family. It's just establishing the connections that is difficult. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! --Angie Macri-Hanson --part1_18c.664d633.29e9e8ed_boundary--

    2. Am desperately seeking information regarding parents and/or siblings of Thomas Robert Davis b. 2/06/1850 (2) in Jackson County or Pickneyville depending on the source. Thomas married Eliza Leming in Randolph County in 1874 and Elizabeth (m. Dwight Durkee), Mary (died at age 3), Thomas Leming (my g-grandfather and moved to Rockford) and Edna Mae (m. Doug Smith) were the products of this union. Thomas was a miner and lived in Randolph County until 1901 when he and Eliza moved to Willisville where he died on May 13, 1928. On his death certificate it lists his mother as Elizabeth Huggins (b. in IL) and his father as Robert Davis (b. in Wales). Any information would be most appreciated.
