    3. Thomas and Velda, I have Ephraim Bilderback in my line but have not necessarily been concentrating on him either. Ephraim married Eliza "Ella" C. Henson (d/o Benjamin and Sophia Whitson Henson). The only other information I have on them is that they had three children: William T. (DOB 12/10/1852 in Jackson County and DOD 2/26/1853 in Jackson County; Joseph DOB Abt 1854; and Minerva DOB Abt 1857. William T. is buried in Boon Cemetery along with his mother, Eliza Whitson Henson. I have no further information on the family. 2. Thomas W Davis
    3. Velda - I've yet to find a Bilderback researcher who has information relating to Daniel. Although I'm not specifically researching the family I've picked up the following in connection with my research of the Preston family. 1. The Indiana Territorial Census for February 1807 shows Daniel Bilderback as a resident of Randolph County, as does the 1810 census. The following year,1811, Daniel served with the Kaskaskia militia, together with William Bilderback, in Captain Wm. Alexander's Company. 2. The 1810 census shows Daniel, Ephraim, John, and Robert Bilderback; and the families of Thomas Roberts and Nancy Preston. The latter (my gg grandmother) was the youngest Preston daughter, and sister of Daniel Bilderback's wife (Susannah), Thomas Bilderback's wife (Margaret) and Thomas Robert's wife (Jane). The census places the referenced families in the following order: the Roberts' family, the E. Bilderback family, the Daniel Bilderback family;and Nancy Preston family. 3. The militia rolls of 1813 show Daniel serving in Captain Wm Boon's Co. of Mounted Volunteers, together with Ensign John Bilderback, and private Charles Bilderback. 4. And last, Daniel Bilderback purchased federal land 27 Mar 1834. Perhaps the above will be of assistance to someone. Tom

    1. [ILRANDOL] Cleon Stevenson (July 10, 1909 - June 03, 2002)
    2. Tom Stevenson
    3. If anyone happens across an obituary from any of the local Illinois papers for Cleon Stevenson, I would be very grateful for a copy. Cleon Stevenson was born July 10, 1909 in Illinois, the son of Edward Andrew Stevenson (1879-1940) and Sadie W. McCauley (1887-1971). He moved north to Ann Arbor, Michigan to work at the Hoover plant there until he returned to Marissa, Illinois to farm. He took care of his elderly neighbors, Irvin and Eva Patton Dunn, who left him their adjoining farm when they died. Cleon married Jewel Tuttle (b. 1912) on April 23, 1930 in Bowling Green, Ohio. Their children are Dean Ornell, Ruby Joann, Lloyd Cleon, Loren, and Dennis. Cleon passed away June 3, 2002, just short of his 93rd birthday. Cleon's father Edward played in a band with his brothers called the Stevenson Boys. They played at parties and dances around the area. Edward moved to Michigan and worked at the Hoover plant in Ann Arbor until his death. His wife, Sadie, returned to Illinois and lived in Sparta. She used to make quilts by hand. She always had a box of chocolates for her great grandchildren, and a quilting frame in the living room. Sadie was the daughter of Archibald McCauley (1851-1920) and Mary Elizabeth Hemphill (1856-1936). Her maternal grandparents, Hugh Hemphill (1822-1919) and Nancy McKenny (1828-1914), came to the U.S. from Ireland in 1867 and lived in Marissa. Sadie's paternal grandparents, Archibald McCauley (1816-1890) and Mary Ann Sands (1826-1891), also came to the U.S. from Ireland. Archibald homesteaded land NE of Tilden, Illinois and it is still in the McCauley family. Cleon's paternal grandparents were Robert S. Stevenson (1821-1888) and Elizabeth Sands (1837-1931). Robert was born in Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland, the son of Michael Stevenson (1798-1884) and Janet Telford (1799-1860). Robert is listed as a harness maker in the 1850 census, living with his parents. Michael brought his family from Scotland to Illinois and received a land grant in Randolph County in 1843. Michael's parents were Michael (John) Stevenson (1761 - ?) of Paisley and Margaret Pollock (1761 - ?) of Barrhead. His grandparents were Robert Stevenson and Christian Reid, married in Low Church Parish, Paisley, Renfrew in 1744. Margaret Pollock was the daughter of Robert and Janet Pollock, married June 22, 1757 in Neilston Parish, Renfrewshire. 1. [ILRANDOL] Elizabeth Purkens m. Nathaniel Armstrong July 1811
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Perkins, Casey, Barker, Armstrong, Stubblefield, Lieurance, Herring, Webb, Jones, Barber, Hargrove Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/og.2ADI/109 Message Board Post: Interested in any info re marriage of Elizabeth Purkens to Nathaniel Armstrong in Randolph County July 1811. She may have been widow of Solomon Perkins (he's my prime suspect at this point), near Shawnee Town, possibly emigrated from Livingston co. KY. Left KY for IL 1808. Four sons by first husband Perkins, all born in KY: Isaac born 1795, Daniel Reese born 1797, Elisha born 1799 and Solomon born 1801. Also three daughters (probably all born in KY too, est. 1803, 1805 and 1807), one married Joel Hargrove, another married Solomon Casey (son of Isaac Casey). Isaac Perkins married Jane Barker, son of Lewis Barker who operated a ferry at Cave-in-Rock IL across the Ohio River. Isaac Casey's father was Randolph Casey; supposedly his mother was a Perkins in South Carolina (unconfirmed). A Barker offspring also married a Casey offspring, so Barkers, Caseys and Perkinses seem closely allied. Son Daniel Reese Perkins married (1) Rachel Herring, (2) Frances Webb, (3) Evalina Jones. Son Solomon married Mary (Polly) Ogle in 1819. Son Elisha married Susannah Barber. Elisha may have also had a first wife named Casey, as he is closely associated with Caseys throughout his lifetime and named some of his children "Casey" names such as Zedoc and Green. Solomon Perkins (the son) became the first sheriff of Des Moines county Iowa (at Burlington) and was one of the first two sheriffs in the entire state, having gone there in 1833 before it was open for settlement. Both Solomon and Isaac served in the Black Hawk War from Tazewell county; Isaac was killed but Solomon came back OK. There is a monument in the state of IL erected around 1900 that commemorates the Battle of Stillman's Run where Isaac Perkins and ten or so others were killed in 1832. Abraham Lincoln was the militia captain in charge of the burial detail. Elizabeth Purkens and Nathaniel Armstrong had at least one son, a John Armstrong, who is mentioned as being a half-brother to the Perkins brothers in a letter to an IL newspaper in Warren county by a Perkins descendant in 1885. Lewis Barker came from Livingston county KY and owned land in Robertson county TN. Caseys came from SC via TN. Descendants lived in Franklin co., Tazewell co. and Warren co. IL and then migrated to Iowa (Warren Co. & Pottawattamie Co.) and later to Kansas and Nebraska. Later descendants married Lieurances (originally from Ashe County NC, then to Clinton Co. OH in 1806 and then to Warren County IL in 1830s) quite a bit. Lieurances (Lowrances) and Perkinses may have known each other in NC in 1700s. Solomon Perkins (Sr.) registered for squatters' rights for 320 acres of land at Cave-in-Rock in 1807 and was granted permission to remain on the land. His name does not appear on the report of squatters granted land in 1814 approved by Congress -- perhaps he was killed by Indians before summer of 1811? These Perkinses may have emigrated from the Shenandoah Valley of VA near Hopewell Meeting. A Joseph Perkins turns up later as the first superintendent of the Harper's Ferry federal armory nearby in 1810, his successor was a Stubblefield. Four Perkins siblings intermarried with four Stubblefield siblings in early Illinois and came from NC -- perhaps cousins? Elisha Perkins (descended from the Richard Perkins line of Spesutie Island, MD) is also associated with Hopewell Friends Meeting in Winchester, VA at this time (mid-1700s). This is the Elisha who had the marital problems with Margery. Any info appreciated.
