Rock Creek is another community located in Hardin County. Searches on the U.S. Geological Survey GNIS database (a gazateer) identify churches and cemeteries named Rock Creek in other areas of Illinois, but not in Pope and Hardin Counties. Use your Web browser to see and print the information, and link from the Web page to the Tiger Maps of the U.S. Census Bureau to see and print maps at different scales. There is a description of Rock (formerly Birdseye) in the Pope County, Illinois History, Vol. 1, but there are no descriptions of such a church or cemetery. Probably, the cemetery you are seeking is in Hardin County nearby the Rock Creek community. About ten years ago, we purchased a small map at the Pope County Courthouse that identified many of the cemeteries of Southern Illinois. It was produced as part of a government/university research project for the region. Someone in the area may be able to help you to use this resource. Our copy is missing in action as a result of our last move, and we're waiting to see which box it's in <g>. Dallas Patterson nye@fidalgo.net
