    1. PARMELY, Samuel......HELP

    3. Parmely is one of my Pope Co., IL family lines. I am having trouble with part of this line and ask other Parmely (Parmley, Parmeley, etc.) reserachers for their help. I have traced my Parmely line as below: Martha M. Parmely b. Dec. 16, 1873 in Pope Co., IL m. George Feezor d. Jan 6, 1921 in Vermilion Co., IL Samuel Parmeley b. Aug. 1851 in IL m. Malinda L. Griffin d. June 30, 1925 in Pope Co., IL Samuel Parmely, Jr. b. Apr. 25, 1826 in IL m. Lucinda Melinda Baker d. May 14, 1884 in Pope Co., IL The "Jr." in Samuel Parmely's (b. 1826) name comes from his gravestone, therefore I assume that his father's name was Samuel Parmely, Sr. This is where I have some problems... In the 1850 Pope Co., IL census there is listed an elderly Samuel Parmley. This Samuel Parmley is 52 yrs. old (born about 1798) and born in Virginia. His wife is listed as Mary Parmley, aged 40, born in Tennessee. I have asssumed that this is the father of my Samuel Parmely, Jr. My problems come, however, when I look over the many biographies on the Parmely line in Pope Co., IL. These biographies make no reference to this Samuel Parmely. There are references the 1st Samuel Parmely (born in VA) to come to Pope Co., IL whose wife is named as Rebecca Hawkins. The main problems is the dates. This Samuel is listed as marrying Rebecca Hawkins in Livingston Co., KY on June 29, 1805. This could not possibly be MY Samuel Parmely because that would means that he married at the age of 7....IMPOSSIBLE. Please help. Dawn dprock@ix.netcom.com
