To the persons interested in the King family. I have read that the Pope County Kings were originally French Le Roi, or LeRoy, which supposedly means king in English. This family is supposedly one of the early French Illinoisans who lived in Pope County at the time of the latter Fort Massac at the turn of the 17th Century. Does this ring any bells out there? I'm interested in the 18th Century history of the region.
