Hi Judy! Thanks for the response. Wherever they've been, the Carrs that I'm related to don't seem to have any other relations with that surname. When I first started to work on the Carr line several years ago, I found a number of Carrs in the Pope, Saline, Williamson, Hardin, Gallatin area. All of them had roots in TN, KY, and VA. Mine were from AL and SC. I can't find any blood connection unless it exists from a long time ago. Another part of my family moved out of SE Illinois into Stone County, MO. There were also other Carrs in that county, but they, too, weren't related to my line. I checked my files but couldn't find any Halls in my files. It is intriguing because the Carrs first moved into the Stonefort area when they moved up from AL. Check the 1860 census. That is the first Illinois census to have my Carr line. John Carr, my 4th gr grandfather, can be found in the John Abner Spence household in 1860, Stonefort P.O., T 10 Range 5 E, page 239. Nancy is his daughter. Also in 1860, John's son George W. Carr is living in Zion Hill area of Pope County with his family. George died in the Civil War in 1863. I don't know exactly when the families got there but I suspect it was after 1852. The Spence family's first child born in IL was born in 1855. The last one born in AL was born in 1851. Also the Carr family and Dent family moved at about the same time and one of the Dents had a child in mid 1852. Your family and mine could very well have been friends but I think that my family moved into the area too late. But who knows. Maybe you'll spot something on my family page. Thanks again!
