Margaret Reynolds Oliver Margaret, Pope County was formed from Johnson & Gallatin Counties the 10th of Jan 1816, before that you might try Randolph County. Sometimes it was easier for couples to go by water, you could also check KY. I'm assuming alot of marriages didn't make it to the courthouse to be recorded. We found where J.Ps & ministers would bring in several marriages at one time, where did they keep them, did they loose any? The marriages found on the first 10 pages of our book were found in the front of Marriage Book A, leading us to believe there was an earlier marriage book. But where, who knows. We also found some unrecorded licenses in the courthouse, not many, but a few. So we have to go to other records, deeds, probate records, etc. Hope this helps you. Thanks, once again for the roses.
