Sorry, I messed up when I typed that. Polly married Jonathan Joiner in 1827 (late 1820s). I must have been distracted when I typed that. Among references (in a typed book at the Pope Cunty courthouse) to Mark Whitaker's probate records, I found the following entries: - 26 Jan 1826 Polly Dees became indebted to John Baldwin and Jinta Whitaker, administrators of Mark Whitaker's estate, for a list of goods (furniture, livestock, etc.) which is footnoted in the record as probably a wedding gift. (My guess is that it could also have all been a gift made at the time when she lost her husband). JOINER, JONATHAN WHITAKER, POLLY (MISS) POPE 02/18/1827 00A/0038 00000000 - on 20 May 1828, there is a letter in regard to estate notes indicating that Polly Joiner, wife of Jonathan Joiner, is an heir to the estate of Mark Whitaker On 10 August 1829, there is a record that Polly Joiner, alias Dees, was an hier to Mark Whitaker. The oldest record I've found of a Dees in southern IL was William Dees, who was listed in 1812-14 as a corporal in the pay roll of company of militia commanded by Captain William ALEXANDER, of the county of Randolph, Illinois Territory. William Dees, David Dees, Levey Dees, and Jesse Dees were listed as a property holders in Pope County in 1816.
