    3. Joanie, I was in Golconda earlier this year and found everyone to be very helpful, especially at the courthouse. I would suggest going to the library first. They have a genealogy section where you will find several indexes to courthouse records. Of all the places where I've done research, Pope County is my favorite place. The courthouse and library in Metropolis (Massac C0.)is about 20 to 25 minutes away from Golconda. Several motels in Metropolis just off I24 and just across the river are shopping malls in Paducah KY. Have fun, Opal -----Original Message----- From: JM Lunn [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, November 23, 2002 11:05 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [ILPOPE-L] Planning Research Trip to Pope County Hi all, Am planning a trip to Pope County to do some heavy-duty research. Could someone tell me if I will be able to access and make copies of documents I find at the courthouse (what types of documents, years covered, etc.) Is there a library which houses documentation. Where else would I find documentation? I have relatives buried at Antioch Cemetery (is this the same as Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery?), Shedville Cemetery, Hodge Cemetery and probably more, but won't know that until I do research - is there a site that lists exact location of cemeteries? Have family members buried in Kane County and Massac County and hope to do research there too. I live in California and am not familiar with geographics of Illinois, so any help and advice as to where and how to start would be greatly appreciated.
